Job summary

The Gill Corporation is hiring a CNC Operator in Maryland to perform precision machining on aerospace-grade honeycomb and composite core materials. You’ll operate multi-axis CNC milling equipment and saws to meet strict aerospace tolerances and support a high-reliability manufacturing environment.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of CNC experience, with proficiency in reading drawings and using calipers/micrometers.

Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of CNC experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience performing three and five-axis NC machining of metallic or composite products.
  • Exposure to close tolerance work and use of calipers or micrometers.
  • Must have English reading, writing and verbal communication skills sufficient to read, write, and understand company procedures and policies.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machining equipment and industrial saws to required dimensions and tolerances.
  • Set up machines by mounting and aligning workpieces, fixtures, and tooling, and selecting/installing cutting tools.
  • Load CNC programs from machine controllers or manufacturing databases.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, planning sheets, sketches, and technical documentation.
  • Produce parts within specified tolerances, including ±0.005” thickness and ±0.010” EOP when required.
  • Inspect completed work using measurement tools to verify compliance with specifications.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and coordinate with engineering/maintenance to resolve problems.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment and assist with preventive maintenance.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and safety compliance.

By utilizing broad engineering expertise along with sophisticated 5-axis CNC machining and special processing, we have the ability to deliver solutions that are responsive to customer needs.

Compensation for this role: $23.00-$29.00/hour (commensurate with experience) PLUS Shift Differential - $2.00/hr for 2nd and $3.00/hr for 3rd

Shift:

1st Shift, Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM

2nd Shift, Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM

3rd Shift, Sunday through Thursday, 10:00 PM - 6:30 AM

Summary:

The CNC Operator performs precision machining and cutting operations on aerospace-grade metallic and non-metallic honeycomb and composite core materials. This role operates multi-axis CNC milling equipment as well as horizontal and vertical industrial saws to produce components that meet strict aerospace engineering specifications and tolerances. This position supports a high-reliability manufacturing environment focused on safety, precision, and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Operate CNC machining equipment and industrial saws to required dimensions and tolerances.
  • Set up machines by mounting and aligning workpieces, fixtures, and tooling, and selecting/installing appropriate cutting tools.
  • Load CNC programs from machine controllers or manufacturing databases.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, planning sheets, sketches, and technical documentation to determine setup requirements and machining sequences.
  • Produce parts within specified tolerances, including ±0.005” thickness and ±0.010” end-of-part (EOP) when required.
  • Monitor machine operations and displays to ensure proper performance and identify malfunctions or process deviations.
  • Inspect completed work using appropriate measurement tools to verify compliance with engineering specifications prior to release to the next operation.
  • Troubleshoot machining, cutting, or quality issues and coordinate with engineering, maintenance, and supervision to resolve problems.
  • Perform routine operator-level preventive maintenance and maintain equipment
  • Maintain accurate communication regarding production throughput, machine performance, and process issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, including evaluation of new equipment, tooling, and manufacturing techniques.
  • Safely operate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with company standards.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to cross-train and support multiple machines, processes, and manufacturing work cells.
  • Adhere strictly to plant safety policies, PPE requirements, and environmental health standards and promptly report unsafe conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of production operations.
Qualifications and Education (Required)
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Two (2) years of CNC experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience performing three and five-axis NC machining of metallic or composite products where hand forming, carving, or hand tool machining of light gauge or delicate materials are required.
  • Exposure to close tolerance work, typically on the order of a few thousandths of an inch, and use of calipers or micrometers.
  • Acceptable vision test results (as applicable).
  • Muss have English reading, writing and verbal communication skills sufficient to read, write, and understand and communicate the company's operating procedures and policies.
Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and lift and/or move 32 to 50 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
