Job summary

Staffmark Group in North Charleston, SC is hiring a Maintenance Helper to support apartment homes and building systems. You will troubleshoot problems, perform repairs, and help keep HVAC, plumbing, electrical fixtures, and common areas running safely and efficiently.

We offer a Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM schedule with pay between $20 and $25 per hour, plus benefits and opportunities for certification. A high school diploma or GED is preferred, HVAC/EPA certifications are a plus, and the job

Qualifications

• Ability to read work orders, technical manuals, and repair diagrams.
• Basic computer and recordkeeping skills are helpful.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on apartment homes, common areas, and building systems.
• Troubleshoot and repair HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical components, appliances, lighting, and fixtures.
• Complete service requests accurately, safely, and in a timely manner.
• Conduct routine inspections of equipment, appliances, and building systems.
• Replace filters, perform minor painting, and support general property upkeep.
• Maintain detailed records of maintenance work, repairs, and inspections.
• Coordinate and monitor outside contractors performing specialized repairs.
• Follow safety procedures and company maintenance standards.
• Deliver excellent customer service while interacting with residents and team members.

Experience Requirements

• Previous experience as a Maintenance Technician, Apartment Maintenance Technician, Facilities Maintenance Technician, or Building Maintenance Technician.
• Experience with HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical repairs, appliance repair, and general building maintenance.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English with residents, vendors, and team members.
• Customer service experience and a professional attitude when responding to maintenance requests.
• Experience coordinating with vendors or contractors is a plus.

Physical Capabilities

• Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and reach throughout the workday.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull maintenance tools, equipment, and materials.
• Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Use hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and maintenance systems safely.
• Ability to inspect, diagnose, and repair equipment in tight spaces and elevated areas when needed.
