Job summary

Leadec Holding is seeking a Mechanical Millwright Apprentice to learn maintenance and installation of industrial machinery on-site in Birmingham. You will work under experienced millwrights, performing layouts, measurements, and assembly tasks while travelling for out-of-town assignments as needed.

You will gain hands-on experience with rigging, welding, bearings, gear alignment, and tool usage, with emphasis on safety and quality standards within ISO frameworks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in industrial maintenance.
• Ability to follow instructions and work safely.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret mechanical drawings for equipment fabrication and assembly.
• Perform precise layouts for new or relocated equipment installations.
• Safely and effectively use all hand tools relevant to the trade.
• Assist with rigging operations; bull rigging experience is a plus.
• Operate industrial equipment including carry deck cranes, rigger forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts and high-reach lull s.
• Conduct precise measurements using calipers and micrometers.
• Support pipe fitting tasks across various pipe types (screw, weld, copper, glue joints).
• Assist with welding tasks (MIG, TIG, Sticks); welding experience is a plus.
• Participate in bearing removal and installation.
• Align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances.
• Use oxyacetylene torch for flame cutting and steel heating.

Position: Mechanical Millwright Apprentice

Location: Project Services/Birmingham

Job Type: On-site and Travel

Reports to: Supervisor

Department: North American Operations

Position Purpose: As a Mechanical Millwright Apprentice, you will work under the guidance of experienced millwrights to learn the skills necessary to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair industrial machinery and mechanical systems. This hands-on role is ideal for individuals looking to build a career in industrial maintenance and mechanical trade.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates the values and business principles of Leadec.
• Works safely at all times.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings for equipment fabrication and assembly
• Perform precise layouts for new or relocated equipment installations
• Safely and effectively use all hand tools relevant to the trade
• Assist with rigging operations: bull rigging experience is a plus
• Operate industrial equipment including carry deck cranes, rigger forklifts, boom lifts, scissor lifts and high-reach lulls
• Utilize heavy-duty machine roller, toe-jacks, and air bearings (preferred)
• Conduct precise measurements using calipers and micrometers
• Support pip fitting tasks across various pipe types (screw, weld, copper, glue joints)
• Assist with welding tasks (MIG, TIG, Sticks); welding experience is a plus
• Participate in bearing removal and installation
• Align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances
• Use oxyacetylene torch for flame cutting and steel heating
• Operate Theodolite surveying equipment (preferred)
• Travel for out-of-town assignments as needed
