Job summary

Weber School District in West Haven, Utah is seeking a Fire Security Technician to maintain fire alarms, security, and intercom systems across district facilities. The role is full-time with an 8-hour day and a 250-day calendar, reporting to the Fire/Security Foreman.

Ideal candidates will have knowledge of safety practices, the ability to read plans, and the capacity to coordinate with administrators and contractors.

Qualifications

  • Must adhere to safety practices; handle hazardous materials; operate trade equipment incl. electronic equipment, tools such as jackhammer.
  • Knowledge of safety practices, health standards, hazards, and fire security systems.
  • Read and interpret plans, prints, and diagrams; adapt to changing priorities; meet deadlines and schedules.
  • Experience with increasing responsibility is preferred.
  • Targeted job related education meeting organization's prerequisites.
  • Licenses: fire alarm/sprinkler inspection, fire extinguisher service, kitchen hood service, backflow certification.

Purpose Statement:

The job of Fire Security Technician was established for the purpose/s of maintaining indoor/outdoor security equipment, fire alarms, and intercom/Bell systems, etc. in safe operating condition; and providing information on proper operation of various electronic systems. This job reports to the Fire/Security Foreman.

Essential Functions:

  • Assists with snow removal (e.g. shovels, operates snow blower and/or snowplow) for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment.
  • Attends meetings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
  • Coordinates with administration, contractors and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently.
  • Inspects repair work, projects, equipment, work orders, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that jobs are completed efficiently and within local, state, federal regulations.
  • Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
  • Monitors security and fire alarm equipment, both indoor and outdoor for the purpose of ensuring that equipment is working properly and safely.
  • Records work orders, inspections, and purchases for the purpose of documenting information for other personnel.
  • Repairs and maintains electronic systems including communications, security, alarms etc. for the purpose of ensuring proper/safe efficient operation of equipment.
  • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
  • Reviews work orders for the purpose of ensuring compliance with pertinent fire, building and/or safety codes.
  • Transports various items (e.g. tools, equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of materials required at the job site.

Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position

  • Physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position. The role requires in-person collaboration, direct interaction with team members, other staff, students, and/or guardians, and access to on-site equipment and resources.

Other Functions

  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.

Physical Requirements – Not limited to the following:

  • Remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • Move about inside and outside the school to access files, students and machinery.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, computer, computer printer.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend a ladder/stairs to access high objects or different levels of the building.
  • Constantly positions self to maintain files, students, or objects.
  • Have the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Have the ability to observe details at close and far range.
  • Frequently move items weighing up to 20 pounds across the classroom for various needs.
  • Constantly work in outdoor weather conditions.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time
  • Utilize quick body movements to maintain safety and implement student behavior plans
  • Participate in and utilize district safety training

Physical Demands:

Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The work also requires the following physical abilities in order to perform the essential job functions; balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and walking.

Job Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be able to adhere to safety practices; handling hazardous materials; and operating equipment used in trade, including electronic equipment, general hand and power tools, jackhammer, etc.
  • Knowledge preferred of safety practices and procedures; health standards and hazards; electronic and general repair work; and fire security systems.
  • Must be able to read and interpret plans, prints and diagrams; adapting to changing work priorities; and meeting deadlines and schedules.

Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is preferred..

Education: Targeted job related education that meets organization's prerequisite requirements.

Needs to have (or be willing to acquire) and maintain necessary licenses:

  • Fire alarm inspection/testing
  • Fire sprinkler inspection/testing
  • Fire extinguisher service/testing
  • Kitchen hood service/inspection
  • Backflow certification
