Position Overview

This position is accountable for planning, coordinating and controlling the maintenance activities in an assignedarea of the district; managing the operating budget and manpower to guarantee optimal allocation; schedulingof resources, and overseeing right-of-way and road surface maintenance.

Essential Functions

• Plans, organizes, directs and controls all normal and emergency maintenance activities within the assignedarea to provide a safe and usable highway system.
• Investigates and meets with residents and officials regarding complaints, access permits and right-of-wayproblems.
• Inspects construction work performed under contract and by Day Labor to ensure projects reflect approveddepartment standards periodically.
• Assigns, trains, motivates, evaluates and ensures the safety of subordinate personnel and providetechnical guidance.
• Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conduciveto the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
• Performs other duties as designed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registrationas a Licensed Structural Engineer in the state of Illinois.
• Five years of experience in civil engineering.
• Supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to plan and organize and establish priorities.
• Strong leadership and management skills.
• Strong oral and written communication with experience in public speaking.

Conditions of Employment
