Job summary

America's Community Council in Detroit is seeking a General Maintenance & Facilities Support to maintain and repair ACC facilities and support the Marketplace operations. This role involves receiving and organizing deliveries and ensuring inventory is managed across locations.

You will perform repairs, install hardware, assemble furniture, and conduct routine safety checks while assisting with move-ins, events, and distribution activities. Travel between ACC locations is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two or more years of general maintenance, handyman, facilities, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience using common hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests submitted by staff.
  • Perform general building repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Assemble office furniture, shelving, desks, and equipment.
  • Install and replace door locks, knobs, hinges, and other hardware.
  • Repair drywall, patch holes, and perform interior painting and touch-up work.
  • Replace light bulbs, light fixtures, ceiling tiles, and basic electrical components within scope of position.
  • Repair or replace flooring transitions, weather stripping, and other minor building components.
  • Conduct routine inspections of offices to identify maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.
  • Assist with office moves, furniture relocation, and room setups for meetings or events.
  • Ensure facilities remain clean, organized, safe, and functional.
  • Assist with receiving deliveries from Forgotten Harvest and other community partners.
  • Stock produce, canned goods, dry goods, household items, and other donated supplies.
  • Organize storage rooms, coolers, freezers, and warehouse areas.
  • Assist with maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in storage and distribution areas.
  • Dispose of damaged or spoiled items following organizational procedures.
  • Assist staff and volunteers during food distribution and special events as needed.
  • Move pallets, boxes, furniture, and supplies throughout facilities.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to staff, clients, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Respond professionally and courteously to maintenance requests and operational needs.
  • Communicate repair timelines and project updates with supervisors and requesting staff.
  • Support special events through room setup, breakdown, and logistics.
  • Assist with seasonal facility projects and organizational initiatives.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while working in client-facing environments.

Summary

The General Maintenance & Facilities Support is responsible for supporting the daily maintenance, safety, and operational needs of America's Community Council (ACC) facilities and programs. This position performs a variety of general maintenance, repair, and handyman duties while also providing operational support to the ACC Marketplace, including receiving and organizing food deliveries and maintaining inventory.

Schedule
  • Full-Time
  • Monday through Friday
  • 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • Travel between ACC locations is required.
Duties
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests submitted by staff.
  • Perform general building repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Assemble office furniture, shelving, desks, and equipment.
  • Install and replace door locks, knobs, hinges, and other hardware.
  • Repair drywall, patch holes, and perform interior painting and touch-up work.
  • Replace light bulbs, light fixtures, ceiling tiles, and basic electrical components within scope of position.
  • Perform basic plumbing repairs, including replacing faucets, unclogging drains, repairing toilets, and fixing minor leaks.
  • Install pictures, whiteboards, shelving, signage, televisions, and other wall-mounted items.
  • Repair or replace flooring transitions, weather stripping, and other minor building components.
  • Conduct routine inspections of offices to identify maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.
  • Assist with office moves, furniture relocation, and room setups for meetings or events.

  • Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
  • Ability to travel between multiple ACC locations (Oakland, Macomb and Wayne county) throughout the workday.
