Job summary

AbbVie in New Jersey is seeking an experienced Equipment Maintenance Technician to perform preventive and predictive maintenance, troubleshoot, repair, and improve process and facility equipment, and provide 24/7 maintenance support to the site.

Responsibilities include diagnosing PLC‑controlled equipment, calibrating sensors and instrumentation, and documenting work in CMMS (Maximo). You will support GMP/PSM compliance and investigations, with strong problem solving and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma with 10+ years of experience or Relevant Certificate with 5+ years of experience, or Associates technical degree with 3+ years of experience, or proficient in two or more skilled maintenance functions.
  • Knowledge and ability to use advanced tools (i.e. machine tools, diagnostic tools, predictive tools).
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Windows).

  • Perform or arrange for preventive and demand maintenance on a wide variety of equipment.
  • Support reliability‑centered maintenance programs with predictive maintenance activities.
  • Document activities to ensure GMP/PSM compliance and other regulations.

  • Follow all EHS procedures and contribute to EHS performance improvements.
  • Attend required training and perform maintenance-related training sessions.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot PLC‑controlled equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Calibrate and verify field instrumentation (sensors, encoders, transmitters).
  • Record work in CMMS (e.g., Maximo) with failure codes and parts usage.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests on off-shifts.

Job Description

The primary job functions of this position are to act as the equipment maintenance technician for the completion of scheduled and demand preventive/predictive equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and improvement of process and facility equipment, and to deliver 24 hour / 7 days a week maintenance support to the facility. The Mechanical Equipment Technician will also provide technical support in the design, installation, and qualification of new or modified process or facility equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Perform or arrange for preventive and demand maintenance on a wide variety of equipment, including electrical, plumbing, and process equipment.
  • Support reliability‑centered maintenance programs at the site by performing or coordinating completion of predictive maintenance activities such as equipment vibration analysis, oil/lubricant analysis, ultrasonic thickness or other non‑destructive testing, infrared heat mapping, etc.
  • Conduct and document activities in a manner that maintains facility compliance with good manufacturing practices (GMP), process safety management (PSM), and other applicable regulations.
  • Provide maintenance expertise in support of manufacturing investigations, failure and root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action planning and execution.
  • Strictly follow all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) procedures and support efforts to improve facility EHS performance.
  • Attend all required training and comply with the responsibilities associated with the maintenance technician position as detailed in the applicable Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Conduct maintenance‑related training sessions as required.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot PLC‑controlled equipment (I/O, sensors, actuators, communication faults) to minimize downtime.
  • Calibrate and verify field instrumentation (proximity sensors, photoeyes, encoders, pressure/temperature transmitters).
  • Document work in CMMS (e.g., Maximo) including failure codes, corrective actions, and parts usage.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests on off‑shifts.
Qualifications
  • HS diploma with 10+ years of experience or Relevant Certificate with 5+ years of experience, or Associates technical degree with 3+ years of experience, or proficient in two or more skilled maintenance functions.
  • Knowledge and ability to use advanced tools (i.e. machine tools, diagnostic tools, predictive tools).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Problem solving, troubleshooting, and repair skills for a wide variety of systems and equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic, reactors, control valves, pumps, etc. is Highly Desired.
  • Welding, pipefitting, construction, basic electrical knowledge, and machining skills is Highly Desired.
  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with Maintenance Department objectives with minimal supervision is Highly Desired.
  • Ability to work effectively with operators, engineers, contractors, and vendor representatives is Highly Desired.
  • CMRT (Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician) or equivalent accreditation is Desired.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
