Job Summary And Purpose

As the Maintenance Equipment Supervisor, you will lead a team of maintenance and calibration technicians responsible for ensuring the availability, reliability, and compliance of equipment used in the production and testing of animal health products. Operating within the regulatory frameworks established by the USDA and EU GMP Standards, you will oversee the installation, diagnostics, maintenance and repair activities of a diverse range of machinery and instrumentation critical to our operations. Your leadership and technical expertise will play a pivotal role in optimizing equipment performance, minimizing downtime, and fostering a culture of safety and asset care within the organization.

Responsibilities And Key Duties
  • Supervision and Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of maintenance and calibration technicians, providing guidance, support, and direction in their daily activities. Foster a collaborative and cohesive work environment focused on achieving departmental goals and objectives.
  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Prioritize, and coordinate equipment care activities to ensure timely completion and minimal disruption to production schedules. Conduct regular inspections and assessments of equipment performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Preventive and Predictive Maintenance Program: Implement a comprehensive preventive and predictive maintenance program for all critical site equipment, including task assignment and documentation of maintenance activities. Monitor adherence to maintenance and calibration schedules and review maintenance records to ensure compliance with industry best practices.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with USDA and GMP Standards by maintaining accurate records of equipment maintenance and calibration activities. Coordinate with regulatory affairs and quality assurance teams to facilitate inspections, audits, and corrective actions related to equipment performance and compliance. Assist in maintaining a state of inspection-readiness across the campus.
  • Safety: Promote a culture of safety and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) among maintenance technicians. Visit the Maintenance Technician’s work sites to ensure they are working safely and wearing the appropriate PPE. Conduct regular safety training sessions and toolbox talks to reinforce best practices in equipment operation, maintenance, and hazard recognition. Participate in reducing and actioning HSE CAPAs and assign the development of required HECPs.
  • Training: Oversee the site’s Maintenance Training program; activities include performing skills assessments, identifying skill gaps and required training, ensuring the proper training is available and being conducted/received. Manage the development and sustainment of simulation equipment, learning labs and training centers.
  • Contractor Management: Participate in overseeing the identification, selection, scheduling, and management of on-site contractors. Ensure they are working safely and within their allotted scope of work. Review and approve their submitted documentation of work performed and associated fees.
  • Vehicle Management: Responsible for the identification, selection, operation and maintenance of the department’s mobile equipment including trucks and golf carts. Ensure proper and timely registration, insurance, maintenance, and repairs of this equipment.
  • Personnel Development: Oversee the Ceva Lenexa maintenance training program ensuring applicable training is being provided, advancing the pertinent skills required to quickly, safely and accurately diagnose, repair and maintain critical assets and processes. Record all required documentation in the appropriate training system for all maintenance team members.
  • Performance Accountability: Monitor and evaluate the performance of the maintenance and calibration team, holding them accountable for achieving planned objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs). Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to promote continuous improvement and career path development.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to equipment uptime, maintenance backlog, and technician productivity. Generate reports and performance metrics to track departmental performance and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency gains within the equipment maintenance function. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement improvements in equipment reliability, maintenance procedures, and workflow management.

Technical / Functional Competencies
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality standards, including USDA and GMP Guidelines, pertaining to equipment maintenance and calibration.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Technical proficiency in troubleshooting and overseeing the repair of critical mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and utility systems.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other maintenance software applications.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective time management, prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Certification in maintenance management (e.g., CMRP) or relevant trade certifications (e.g., HVAC, electrical) is a plus.
Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering Technology certificate, or related field preferred.

Work Experience: 1-3 years manager/supervisory experience in a Manufacturing operation.

Physical Requirements

While performing the responsibilities of the Maintenance Equipment Supervisor, the employee is required to walk, climb, talk, and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle, feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard. Often, the employee will be required to stand and walk to different areas of the site. The employee will need to be able to climb ladders and stairs frequently. This job will require close vision to be able to see a monitor, watch employees engaged in processes, and observe manufacturing operations. Periodic lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required.

Working Conditions

Individual will be required to visit various job sites throughout the campus where Maintenance activities are occurring. They will occasionally need to enter clean lab and manufacturing environments in which clothing changes and protective clothing and gear is required. This will include having to shower in/shower out. Both indoor and outdoor work is required with exposure to all potential weather conditions. This position will also come in contact with certain chemicals.
