Job summary

UMass Amherst is seeking a Maintenance Equipment Operator I in Amherst to support Recycling & Waste Management. You will operate heavy trucks and equipment, perform routine maintenance, and assist with loading, unloading, and safe handling of recyclables and waste streams.

This full-time, onsite role requires a valid CDL with Air Brakes and a hoisting license, plus experience with heavy equipment and a commitment to safety and teamwork in a university setting.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts Class B CDL with Air Brakes.
• Class 2B Hoisting License.
• Ability to pass NIDA 5 Drug Screen.
• Experience operating heavy construction equipment.
• Knowledge of safe operation of heavy/heavy-duty equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions.
• Ability to work overtime and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy or specialized trucks and equipment used in solid waste collection and transport.
• Perform routine maintenance and basic repairs on waste handling trucks.
• Load/unload materials and assist in recycling and waste tasks.
• Maintain records and prepare reports on waste volumes and container IDs.
• Follow safety regulations and collaborate with supervisors.
