Job summary

Sheraton Detroit Metro Airport is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to reliably operate central HVAC and mechanical systems, ensuring safe and efficient building performance for guests and staff. You will repair kitchen, laundry, refrigeration and boilers, electrical and gas distribution, perform preventive maintenance and troubleshoot issues quickly and cost-effectively, while complying with corporate procedures and safety standards.

Experience in hotel environments is preferred.

Qualifications

• Hotel engineering experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and commercial kitchen knowledge.
• Vocational training or associate degree, plus applicable certification or apprenticeship.
• Understanding of complex electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, and boiler systems.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.

What you will be doing

• Efficiently and safely operate central HVAC equipment and mechanical equipment using sound engineering practices and specified corporate operating procedures.
• Accurately and efficiently repair and maintain food production and related kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, ice machines and refrigeration systems, boilers and plumbing systems and all electrical and natural gas distribution systems.
• Trouble-shoot electrical and pneumatic problems and repair them as quickly and economically as possible.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on an on-going basis.

Requirements

What we are looking for

• Previous hotel engineering experience required, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, commercial kitchen and general building construction
• Vocational training, associate's degree, certification and/or apprenticeship in one or more area; state certification or licensure where required
• Understand and efficiently maintain and operate advanced electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and boiler systems.
• Read and understand blueprints, schematic drawings and technical parts breakdown.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• High work ethic and self-initiative

Physical Requirements

• Standing and walking throughout the workday.
• Frequent fine motor skills, use of hands and fingers for keyboarding/typing, utilizing a mouse or trackpad, writing, and operating office equipment.
• Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, reach, or carry items.
• Ability to lift and/or move 10–25 pounds as needed (e.g., files, office supplies).
• Visual ability to read from a computer screen and printed materials including close visual focus for extended periods and color differentiation (for certain roles).
