Defense Acquisition Support Services (DAS) is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to support the U.S. Government’s Supply Chain Management Division (SCMD) Supply Chain Management Integration Office.

This position is ideal for an engineer with experience in maintenance engineering, reliability engineering, logistics engineering, or sustainment who enjoys using technical data to solve real-world equipment and supply chain challenges.

The Maintenance Engineer will analyze engineering and logistics data to help the Government determine which components are most likely to fail, which parts present a risk to mission readiness, and how equipment should be repaired, replaced, or sustained throughout its lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, manufacturer data sheets, provisioning documentation, and other technical data to identify and extract relevant logistics and maintenance information.

  • Perform Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) analysis to evaluate equipment reliability, availability, and potential impacts to mission readiness.

  • Conduct or support Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA/FMEA) to identify potential failure modes, their effects, and their impact on system performance and mission capability.

  • Analyze Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF), failure rates, wear‑out characteristics, component lifecycles, and technical refresh cycles to identify parts that may require additional sustainment planning.

  • Identify components that are at increased risk of failure, obsolescence, or becoming unavailable due to industry modernization and technology refresh timelines.

  • Evaluate high-risk components and recommend when NSN assignment and stocking may be necessary to prevent degradation of mission capability.

  • Conduct Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) to determine the most appropriate maintenance strategy for failed components.

  • Determine whether components should be repaired at the field, sustainment, or depot level, or discarded and replaced upon failure.

  • Develop technical analysis, recommendations, and documentation to support maintenance, provisioning, supply chain, and lifecycle sustainment decisions.

  • Work closely with acquisition, engineering, logistics, maintenance, supply chain, and sustainment teams to ensure technical recommendations support overall program objectives.

  • Brief and communicate technical findings to Government and contractor stakeholders and translate complex engineering data into practical recommendations.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Logistics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • Experience in maintenance engineering, reliability engineering, logistics engineering, systems engineering, or lifecycle sustainment.

  • Hands‑on experience with RAM analysis and/or reliability engineering.

  • Experience with FMECA/FMEA and understanding of failure modes, failure rates, criticality, and system impacts.

  • Experience with or understanding of Level of Repair Analysis (LORA) and repair‑versus‑replace decisions.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, manufacturer data sheets, and provisioning documentation.

  • Understanding of MTBF, component failure rates, wear‑out characteristics, obsolescence, and technology refresh cycles.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate technical information and develop sound recommendations.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

Candidates with experience in any of the following areas are highly encouraged to apply:

  • DoD or U.S. Army logistics and sustainment

  • Integrated Logistics Support (ILS)

  • Reliability Engineering

  • Maintenance Engineering

  • National Stock Number (NSN) assignment

  • Supply Support

  • Lifecycle Sustainment

  • Reliability, Availability & Maintainability (RAM)

  • FMECA / FMEA

  • Level of Repair Analysis (LORA)
