Job summary

Delano in Miami Beach seeks a Maintenance Engineer III to maintain and repair hotel equipment, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and kitchen systems. You’ll ensure safe operation, perform preventive maintenance, and keep detailed logs while supporting guest safety and comfort.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s preferred.
  • 2+ years of hands‑on building maintenance or engineering in hotel/resort.
  • Knowledge of electrical, HVAC, mechanical, plumbing systems.
  • Skilled troubleshooting and repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Ability to read manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Familiar with preventive maintenance and logs.
  • Knowledge of PPE and OSHA safety standards.

Job description

JOB OVERVIEW:

Under the general guidance of the Assistant Director of Engineering, Maintenance Engineer III is responsible for maintaining and repairing all building equipment, systems, and components, including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, HVAC, refrigeration kitchen equipment, and the overall maintenance and safe operation of all the hotel’s swimming pools. The Maintenance Engineer ensures the smooth operation of property maintenance through skilled troubleshooting, multi-trade expertise, and adherence to safety standards, contributing to a safe and well-maintained environment while maintaining optimal guest safety, comfort, and equipment reliability.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform general building maintenance, including repairs, and upkeep of guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house equipment to ensure a safe and clean environment.
  • Inspect and test machinery and equipment, diagnosing issues by listening to unusual sounds and observing operations to prevent breakdowns.
  • Perform general building maintenance, including repairs, and upkeep of water feature systems, public areas, and back of house spaces to ensure a safe and clean environment.
  • Repair and replace defective machinery parts to restore full functionality promptly.
  • Maintain the physical structure of the hotel, including walls, floors, doors, and windows, ensuring safety and quality.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment and systems, accurately documenting all activities in maintenance logs.
  • Troubleshoot and repair commercial kitchen equipment to support uninterrupted food service operations.
  • Respond promptly to guest and departmental maintenance requests, ensuring high satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Communicate with maintenance supervisors and management regarding projects, repairs, and safety issues.
  • Participate in training sessions to stay updated on safety protocols and company standards.
  • Follow all safety regulations and company policies to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure smooth hotel operations.
  • Respond quickly to emergencies like fires and power outages to protect guests, staff, and property. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors to support maintenance and hotel operations.

  • We will on occasion call for each individual in the team to, on a routine basis perform various related tasks as needed in the spirit of providing exceptional guest service.

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
  • High school Diploma or equivalent education required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in building maintenance or engineering, including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and general repairs within a hotel, resort, or similar environment.
  • Knowledge of general building maintenance, including carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, and mechanical repairs.
  • Skilled troubleshooting and repairing electrical wiring, lighting fixtures, motors, pumps, and HVAC equipment.
  • Proficient in diagnosing equipment malfunctions and performing timely repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance procedures and maintaining accurate maintenance logs.
  • Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, OSHA standards, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools necessary for maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills for coordinating with supervisors, vendors, and other departments.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond quickly to emergency maintenance issues.
  • Physically capable of performing manual labor, including lifting, climbing, and working in confined spaces.
  • Basic computer skills for logging maintenance work and managing work orders.
  • All team members must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance. Specific department uniform guidelines and/or required articles of clothing will be explained to you by your supervisor.
