Job description

Purpose of the Position

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for maintaining the hotel areas and all hotel assets to an acceptable quality standard.

Essential Responsibilities of the Maintenance Engineer:

  • Provide professional and courteous service at all times.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer with maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks, including refrigeration, heating, plumbing, water treatment, HVAC systems, lighting, kitchen equipment, emergency generators, water softeners, switch rooms, roof exhausts, electrical substations, and more.
  • Monitor electric, gas, and water consumption.
  • Ensure all projects are completed according to specifications and on time.
  • Follow all lockout-tagout procedures in accordance with OSHA standards.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on guest rooms and public areas as outlined.
  • Conduct maintenance checks and log activities properly.
  • Report safety and security concerns immediately to the Chief Engineer or Manager on Duty.
  • Secure all key inventories.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations.
  • Participate in ongoing maintenance programs for event spaces, public areas, kitchens, and convention center equipment.
  • Manage inventory duties as required.
  • Maintain grounds and landscaping attractiveness.
  • Keep all workspaces and storage areas clean and orderly.
  • Attend monthly staff meetings.
  • Complete projects assigned by the Chief Engineer.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous hotel engineering experience required.
  • FSD and EPA certifications preferred.
  • Background in HVAC and electrical systems.
  • Understanding of relevant technologies.
  • Ability to handle various situations and solve problems using facts and judgment.
  • Ability to react quickly in emergencies, making critical decisions.
  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Flexibility to change activities frequently.
  • Availability on nights, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., frequent lifting/carrying of objects up to 25 lbs., and significant walking or standing, reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.

Environmental Conditions: Work occurs both indoors and outdoors, approximately 75% or more inside.

Noise and Vibration: Exposure to noise and vibration that may cause distraction or injury.

Temperature Changes: Exposure to noticeable and abrupt temperature variations.

Math Skills: Ability to compute ratios, proportions, percentages, surface areas, volumes, weights, and measures.

Language Skills: Ability to read instructions and safety rules, communicate confidently in English.

Relationships to Data, People, and Things:

  • Data: Gathering, classifying, and reporting information.
  • People: Communicating and signaling to convey information and give instructions.
  • Things: Using tools and devices to work, move, or carry objects.

Specific vocational preparation includes vocational education, apprenticeships, in-plant training, on-the-job training, or relevant experience lasting over 3 months up to 6 months.
