Aisin Automotive Casting LLC
Location: London, KY
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Maintenance Manager / Assistant Maintenance Manager
Shift: 1st Shift
Employment Type: Full-Time
Position Summary
Aisin Automotive Casting LLC is seeking a versatile Maintenance Engineer to support safe, reliable, and efficient high-pressure die-casting operations. This position combines hands-on equipment troubleshooting, equipment reliability improvement, technical training, and engineering project coordination. The successful candidate will have broad working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated systems rather than requiring specialization in one discipline. Initially, the role will balance troubleshooting with engineering support and will progressively emphasize engineering projects, reliability initiatives, and continuous improvement.
Equipment Troubleshooting and Technical Support
- Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated equipment failures; support maintenance technicians in resolving recurring problems.
- Provide technical support for high-pressure die-casting machines, trim presses, furnaces, robotic systems, conveyors, and auxiliary equipment.
- Interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Troubleshoot motors, drives, sensors, industrial controls, and PLC-controlled equipment; recommend safe, practical repairs and modifications.
Equipment Reliability and Continuous Improvement
- Lead or support root cause analysis of recurring failures and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Review downtime trends, maintenance history, and equipment performance to prioritize improvements.
- Develop and support equipment modifications, preventive and predictive maintenance improvements, and component standardization.
- Work with maintenance management to prioritize reliability initiatives and measure their effectiveness.
Engineering Projects and Contractor Coordination
- Help plan, coordinate, and execute equipment installations, modifications, facility improvements, and maintenance engineering projects.
- Prepare scopes of work defining tasks, technical specifications, expected deliverables, and acceptance requirements.
- Communicate with contractors and vendors; solicit, review, and compare quotations and technical proposals for management review.
- Develop estimated project timelines, installation plans, milestone schedules, and resource requirements in coordination with production and other departments.
- Track progress, costs where assigned, risks, and delays; prepare project status, timeframe, and completion reports.
- Coordinate contractor work and participate in commissioning, startup, and project closeout while maintaining safety and quality expectations.
New Equipment and Spare Parts Readiness
- Collaborate with equipment manufacturers, vendors, maintenance, purchasing, inventory control, and other ACC departments to identify critical spare parts for new equipment.
- Review manufacturer recommendations, drawings, component specifications, failure criticality, and lead times to develop practical initial spare-parts lists.
- Coordinate part identification, documentation, ordering requirements, and availability ahead of equipment startup whenever practical.
- Support CMMS equipment records, bills of materials, parts lists, maintenance procedures, and turnover documentation.
Technical Training and Team Development
- Identify maintenance team training needs based on equipment issues, new installations, skill gaps, and upcoming technology changes.
- Coordinate training opportunities with equipment manufacturers, vendors, contractors, internal subject matter experts, and management.
- Provide hands-on technical instruction, troubleshooting guidance, and knowledge transfer within areas of demonstrated competency.
- Help develop and maintain training materials, standard troubleshooting procedures, equipment guides, and training records.
- Assist management in planning training schedules and evaluating whether training improves technician readiness and equipment support.
Documentation, Communication, and Safety
- Prepare and maintain technical reports, drawings, equipment modification records, project schedules, quotation comparisons, and completion summaries.
- Collaborate with maintenance, production, quality, engineering, purchasing, contractors, and equipment vendors; communicate status and technical recommendations clearly.
- Follow and promote company safety requirements, including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, machine guarding, contractor safety, and appropriate PPE.
Required Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, mechatronics, industrial maintenance technology, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industrial experience.
- Broad working knowledge of industrial mechanical and electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, and industrial controls.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics; familiarity with PLC-controlled equipment and basic control-system troubleshooting.
- Strong systematic troubleshooting, root cause analysis, communication, organization, and documentation skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple assignments and communicate effectively with technicians, contractors, vendors, and management.
- Working knowledge of industrial safety and lockout/tagout procedures; proficiency with standard computer applications including Excel and Word.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of relevant industrial maintenance, maintenance engineering, or equipment reliability experience.
- Experience in high-pressure die casting, automotive manufacturing, foundry operations, or other heavy industrial manufacturing.
- Experience with Mitsubishi, Omron, or similar PLCs; HMI systems, robotics, or industrial networks.
- Experience developing scopes of work, reviewing quotations, coordinating contractors, scheduling projects, or supporting equipment installations.
- Experience planning critical spare parts, using CMMS software, improving preventive maintenance, or coordinating technical training.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Work onsite in an industrial environment with heat, noise, moving machinery, and molten-metal operations; use required PPE.
- Stand, walk, climb, bend, and kneel as needed to inspect equipment; occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Work overtime, weekends, or holidays when necessary to support operational or project requirements.
