Job summary

Syensqo is seeking a Maintenance Engineer at the Anaheim Plant to support safe, reliable, and cost-efficient operations. You will rotate across 2nd and 3rd shifts and weekends, guiding a multi-craft team and partnering with maintenance leadership.

The role develops into a future Maintenance Manager position, with mentorship, hands-on equipment support, and strong emphasis on HSE and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering.
  • 3–7+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Experience with SAP CMMS or similar systems.
  • Ability to lead in a unionized, multi-craft environment.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive/predictive maintenance and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Maintenance Manager and promote a strong HSE culture.
  • Develop and optimize preventive/predictive maintenance strategies.
  • Assist MI program with inspections, testing, and documentation.
  • Lead RCA and reliability improvements to reduce downtime.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work using SAP CMMS and manage backlog.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repairs for equipment.
  • Ensure maintenance quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and contractors.
  • Rotate 2nd/3rd shifts and weekends for on-site leadership.
  • Mentor technicians and foster teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Support budget tracking, contractor management, and spare parts strategy.

Maintenance Engineer

Location: Anaheim Plant, Syensqo
Department: Maintenance
Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Position Summary

The Maintenance Engineer is a key member of the Anaheim plant maintenance team, serving as the understudy and potential successor to the Maintenance Manager. This role is responsible for supporting safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of plant assets through strong maintenance and reliability practices. The Maintenance Engineer will rotate coverage on 2nd and 3rd shifts and weekends, providing technical leadership and hands‑on support to the multi‑craft union team. This position is ideal for an early- to mid-career engineer seeking to develop into a future maintenance leadership role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Maintenance Manager in leading the maintenance team and driving a strong HSE culture in all activities.
  • Develop, implement, and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for plant equipment (mixers, ovens, utilities, dust collection, prepreg machines, hot melt systems, solution dip systems, etc.).
  • Assist in the execution and continuous improvement of the Mechanical Integrity (MI) program, including inspections, testing, and documentation.
  • Lead or participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and reliability improvement initiatives to eliminate recurring failures and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance work using SAP (CMMS); ensure high‑quality work orders, accurate history, and effective backlog management.
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting, repairs, and modifications to equipment and systems.
  • Oversee the quality of maintenance work and ensure compliance with HSE and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and external contractors to deliver safe and efficient maintenance execution.
  • Participate in the rotation for 2nd/3rd shift and weekend coverage, providing on‑site leadership and decision‑making during off‑hours.
  • Mentor and coach technicians; foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support the Maintenance Manager with budget tracking, contractor management, and spare parts strategy as needed.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 3–7 plus years of industrial maintenance experience in a chemical, process, or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with SAP (CMMS) or similar maintenance management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or coordinate maintenance activities in a unionized, multi‑craft environment is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of preventive/predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, and reliability engineering principles.
  • Commitment to HSE excellence and safe work practices.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Willingness and ability to work 2nd/3rd shifts and weekends as part of a rotation.
  • Further studies in maintenance, engineering, or reliability are highly regarded.
Career Development

This role is designed as a development position for future maintenance leadership at Syensqo. The Maintenance Engineer will receive mentorship and exposure to all aspects of maintenance management, preparing them to step into the Maintenance Manager role in the future.

You will get:
  • Competitive salary and benefits package. The U.S. base salary range reasonably expected to be paid for this position is $88,840 to $110,600 per year. Since actual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted base salary range. Total compensation for this role also includes bonus and/or other incentives.
  • 16, or more, weeks of maternity/paternity and co-parenting leave, according to local regulations
