JOB PURPOSE: Hands-on activities associated with maintenance, fabrication, construction and operations of the facility support equipment, services, grounds and production equipment as necessary.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Two years manufacturing experience
- Knowledge of construction techniques, steel, masonry, carpentry, and electrical
- Knowledge of rigging and equipment handling techniques
- Previous experience and knowledge of electricity, HVAC (Heating-ventilation, air-conditioning) systems, boiler maintenance, welding, turning and milling
- Licensed Electrician
- Knowledge of GMP’s, SOP’s and Lockout-Tagout procedures
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Good vision
- Lifting requirements: ability to lift 50 lbs 1-2 times daily
- Ability to hear and speak
- Ability to work with both hands and arms (shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand)
- Ability to crouch, kneel, lay on back, and must be able to physically maneuver themselves to work on machines/equipment (overhead, difficult places)
- Must be able to stand/walk for approximately 75-100% of shift duration
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to train and supervise associates
- Good mathematical ability
- Computer literate
- Ability to work from drawings, sketches, diagrams, and electrical prints
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Production equipment
Knowledge of the operation and function of packaging machinery and equipment
Provide services to equipment and machinery in accordance with manuals and or installation instructions.
Operate tools including lathe, vertical mill, and welder to make or repair machine parts. Develop various packaging jigs or fixtures to help operators perform simple packaging operations.
Plant equipment
- Perform mechanical/electrical work for installing, overhauling, and maintaining manufacturing equipment, including: pumps, mixers, compounding equipment and material handling equipment. This work involves tear down, cleaning and rebuilding of such equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance work to service and maintain manufacturing equipment, including oiling and greasing.
- Maintain electrical distribution system with the facility, compressed air, fire protection system, natural gas, water, and sewer system.
- Assist in training of other mechanics and helpers
- Coordination of activities to routine tasks and projects as they may occur within maintenance and response to other department’s maintenance needs. Make independent decisions where necessary, on work priorities.
- Communicate and work with all departments in a responsive and constructive manner.
- Monitor the mechanical and electrical functions of assigned plant support equipment and operations
- Communicate with Packaging Section Leader and members of management as necessary on production schedule, project work, installations, interruptions of equipment operation due to breakdowns and/or component issues
- Interaction with Team Leaders Mechanic-Packing and Engineering Manager to resolve mechanical/operational issues with short-term and long-term improvements. These maybe procedural or equipment modifications, or new equipment
- Contact vendors and suppliers on equipment repairs and part acquisitions, and/or oversee line mechanics to resolve equipment issues, which are authorized by management
- May be required to work overtime
- Perform other duties that maybe assigned
- Maybe required, when properly trained, to dispose of hazardous waste
