Job summary

SWM International in Massachusetts is seeking a licensed Maintenance Electrician to install, repair and optimize electrical systems for industrial machinery. You will read safety rules, prepare reports, and collaborate with operations to ensure continuous production.

The role requires wiring installations, diagnosing PLCs, motors, and sensors, and replacing defective components. On-call rotation and mentoring apprentices are part of the job, with comprehensive benefits offered by the employer.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician; read and interpret safety rules and manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Speak effectively before groups of people.
  • Compute figures such as discounts, percentages and volumes.
  • Apply basic algebra and geometry to tasks.
  • Follow written, oral or diagram instructions.
  • Solve problems with several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Proficient in Manufacturing software, Outlook and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Install power supply wiring and conduit for new machines and equipment.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning transformers, motors, PLCs, heaters and sensors.
  • Test machinery and coordinate repairs with Maintenance Lead and Supervisors.
  • Replace faulty electrical components and PLC modules.
  • Repair electronic boards and motors, adjust wiring.
  • Program automated machinery using teach pendants and VFDs.
  • Plan layouts and install wiring and electrical apparatus in buildings.
  • Assist in training apprentices and cross-training team members.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Maintenance Electrician installs and repairs electrical systems, apparatus, and electronic components of industrial machinery and equipment, plans and designs electrical installation of systems, provides direction or instruction to team members, and generates purchase order requisitions.

Responsibilities
  • Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as granulators, flat die/blown film lines, and conveyors.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, PLCs, heaters, sensors, various controllers and lighting fixtures.
  • Tests malfunctioning machinery and discusses malfunction/repair with other workers such as Maintenance Lead, Production Operator/Technician, or Supervisors.
  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, switches, PLC modules, motors, and various electronic sensors.
  • Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards.
  • Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors.
  • Uses various controls, teach pendant, and programmable controller to program automated machinery, heat controls, VFDs/motors to operate automated machinery, to test for malfunctions, and to verify repairs.
  • Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
  • Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
  • Employee must be willing to be placed in an on‑call rotation to support plant operations.
  • Employee must be willing to take phone calls to help resolve electrical issues.
  • Employee must be willing to help train apprentices as well as cross‑train Maintenance Team.
Qualifications
Required Education & Skillsets
  • Licensed Journeyman Electrician
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing software, Outlook, Microsoft Office.
Physical Demands
  • Be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Be able to push or pull heavy objects up to 250 pounds.
  • Perform repetitive tasks.
  • Routinely stand, sit, hear, walk, and talk.
  • Reach, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and balance; sometimes in awkward or tight spaces.
  • Have good close vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Meet Mativ certification requirements to operate Power Industrial Trucks.
