Job summary

Kymera International is seeking a Maintenance Electrician in Detroit to perform journey-level electrical work, install, repair, and maintain electrical systems. The role may include mechanical tasks and requires candidate flexibility for 2nd or 3rd shift.

Candidates should have substantial industrial maintenance experience and prefer a journeyman card; safety PPE is mandatory, and the work includes both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to high temperatures.

Qualifications

• Journeyman card preferred; candidates without may apply if they pursue journeyman card with UAW.
• Minimum 8 years of industrial maintenance experience.
• Willing to work 2nd or 3rd shift.
• Ability to climb ladders and access confined spaces.
• Must wear PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toed boots.
• Must be able to stand, bend, and work in high temperatures and external conditions.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical distribution systems including motors and controls.
• Test circuits and electrical equipment using meters and scopes to ensure safety and compatibility.
• Assist in preparing specifications for repairs and new construction.
• Respond to routine and emergency repair calls; maintain service records.
• Provide back-up to other maintenance staff as needed.

Maintenance Electrician

Under general supervision, perform journey-level work in the design, installation, construction, modification, repair and maintenance of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems; act as lead worker to other classified staff in the area; and perform related work as required. Will be asked to perform mechanical tasks in addition to electrical work.

• Incumbents inspect, isolate, troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments.
• Incumbents assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
• Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
• Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
• Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
• Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Estimate cost, time and materials for electrical projects; participate in the maintenance and operations of an electrical shop; clean, maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.

• Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains electrical distribution systems including electric motors and electric controls.
• Tests electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
• Assists in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction.
• May diagnose as well as replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and also pneumatic components of machines equipment.
• Maintains appropriate service and repair records.
• Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
• Assists and serves as back up to other Maintenance employees.

Job Requirements

• Journeyman Card preferred. Will consider candidates without a journeyman card, but must have training, education, and experience in order to apply for a journeyman card with the UAW.
• Candidates must have a minimum of 8 years industrial maintenance experience
• Must be willing to work 2nd or 3rd shift
• Ability to climb a ladder and step ladder.
• Bending at the waist, sitting, kneeling, laying horizontally, climbing, walking, etc., as job may require.
• Noise level which may, at times, require normal hearing protection in the form of ear plugs.
• Heights
• Willingness to work inside plant and outside during inclement weather.Some work in high temperature environment.
• Personal protective equipment required to be worn at all times include hard hat, safety glasses and steel toed safety boots.
• Requires exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly.
• Must be able to stand for long periods.
• Must be able to work in a tight, close environment when needed.
• Ensure compliance of all work-related activities in a fair, ethical, and consistent manner.
