Job summary

YMCA and Women's Center of Rome is seeking a reliable Custodian to keep our facility clean, safe, and welcoming for members, staff, and visitors during daytime hours. You will maintain lobbies, hallways, restrooms, and program spaces, and assist with light maintenance as needed.

The role requires custodial experience and completion of association training, plus a Nationwide background check. You will follow cleaning protocols, disinfect high-touch areas, and contribute to a positive environment

Qualifications

• One or more years of experience in custodial work or a closely related field preferred.
• Must meet all Association-wide training requirements.
• Must pass a Nationwide Criminal and Sex Offender Registry background screening.
• Must ensure that the physical and social environments reflect the Y’s character values and commitment to safety.

Responsibilities

• Maintain cleanliness of lobbies, hallways, restrooms, locker rooms, program spaces, and offices.
• Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, wiping surfaces, and emptying trash.
• Restock supplies (paper products, soap, sanitizer, etc.) throughout the facility.
• Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces regularly to support member safety and health standards.
• Provide friendly, helpful service to members and staff when assistance is needed.
• Respond promptly to cleaning requests, spills, or safety concerns.
• Communicate any facility issues, hazards, or repair needs to supervisor.
• Follow all YMCA cleaning protocols, safety procedures, and chemical handling guidelines.
• Ensure all equipment and supplies are used safely and stored properly.
• Support a clean and safe environment
• Assist with room setups/breakdowns for rentals and light maintenance tasks as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functioning of the facility.
