Job summary

McCormick & Company, Incorporated's Zatarain’s facility in Gretna, Louisiana, is seeking a Maintenance Crew Leader on the 1st shift to lead a production team in a high-performance environment.

Under the direction of the Team Manager, you will coach, train, and ensure reliability of equipment, safety, and sanitation while driving continuous improvement and daily problem solving.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Demonstrated ability to perform changeovers and preventative maintenance on production equipment.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential.
• Experience with basic data analysis and understanding financial impact of staffing decisions.

Responsibilities

• Ensure overall team performance including quality, safety, reliability, waste and sanitation.
• Coach, train and ensure compliance with procedures and safety guidelines.
• Schedule crew vacations and overtime; coordinate training for staff.
• Ensure product meets quality standards and coordinate with QA on issues.
• Troubleshoot minor mechanical problems to keep lines running.
• Facilitate teamwork, hold production meetings and drive continuous improvement.

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Team Manager, sets the example of team leadership within a HPO environment.

Responsibilities

• Ensures overall performance of the team to include quality, safety, reliability, waste and sanitation to achieve business goals.
• Pro-actively encourages continuous improvement and daily problem-solving initiatives to increase operational effectiveness and efficiencies.
• Coaches, trains, and ensures compliance to plant established procedures (including work rule, safety and sanitation guidelines) while demonstrating a deep respect for the capabilities of all people.
• Ensures that all activities follow documented operating procedures and recommends updates to existing procedures as required.
• Coordinates & schedules crew vacation requests & overtime.
• Determines needs and conducts training required for new & existing employees.
• Ensures product meets quality standards, coordinates problem solving directly with QA floor inspector.
• Resolves minor mechanical and processing problems and makes necessary adjustments to keep the line running.
• Performs job tasks of other team members of jobs of equal or lower grades.
• Facilitates teamwork and coaching among team members.
• Holds meetings for production tracking, problem solving and team development.

Required Qualifications

• Excellent attendance required.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Three years of manufacturing and/or industrial experience required.
• Demonstrated ability to perform changeovers and preventative maintenance on all production equipment required.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose mechanical problems and resolve minor mechanical and processing problems required.
• Demonstrated ability to understand financial impact of business decision affecting staffing, product components and inventory required.
• Demonstrated computer skills, including knowledge of Excel, Word, statistical database applications & Lotus Notes required.
• Demonstrated ability to pro-actively encourage continuous improvement and daily problem-solving initiatives required.
• Proven ability to coach, train and influence while demonstrating a deep respect for the capabilities of all people required.
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required
• Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking skills to determine risk assessment required.
• Ability to work overtime/weekends required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of SAP, Infinity, Power Point, Access preferred.
• Demonstrated practice of leadership principles required and formal leadership training strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated competency to operate all equipment in the business strongly preferred.
• Experience effectively leading and facilitating team and cross-functional meetings strongly preferred.
