Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) is seeking a Maintenance/Construction Technician I for Merchants Millpond State Park. You will perform semi-skilled trades and general grounds maintenance to keep facilities, grounds, and equipment in good working order.

Typical schedule is Mon-Fri, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, with possible evenings, holidays, or weekends. A valid US driver’s license and ability to perform physical tasks are required; a sign-on bonus of $1,000 is

Qualifications

• Demonstrated work experience performing trades in at least two of carpentry, plumbing, electrical or auto mechanics.
• Experience in grounds maintenance/landscaping.
• Maintenance on buildings, facilities, and grounds equipment.

Description of Work

Do you have maintenance skills and enjoy working outside with your hands? The North Carolina State Parks is seeking self-motivated staff for our maintenance team at Merchant Millpond State Park. The Maintenance/Construction Technician I performs manual work to maintain Park grounds, building, facilities, and equipment. The position will work both independently and with others assisting in all areas of basic custodial duties, boundary line clearing and maintenance, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing and trimming, prescribed burns, basic auto mechanics, and other similar work.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Performing a variety of semi-skilled tasks in a trade such as plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and facility maintenance, and/or auto mechanics.
• Operating large and small equipment and/or tools.
• Purchasing resources in accordance with state purchasing policies and procedures.
• Maintaining records and preparing operational forms.
• Assisting in housekeeping.
• May Supervise temporary and permanent staff, community service participates, and/or volunteers on special projects.

Recruitment Range

$31,200.00 - $40,278.00

Candidates meet the minimum qualifications of this position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. Vacancy specific knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) and/or management preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following are preferred:

• Demonstrated work experience performing trades in at least two of the following: carpentry, plumbing, electrical and/or auto mechanics.
• Demonstrated experience in performing grounds maintenance/landscaping.
• Demonstrated experience in performing maintenance on buildings, facilities, and grounds maintenance equipment.

Position/Physical Requirements

Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday 7:00 A.M-3:30 P.M; must be able to work rotating evenings, holidays, and/or weekends when necessary. This schedule may vary.

Must be able to perform work inside and outside in various environmental conditions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Must have a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment.

Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with or without reasonable accommodation.
