Job summary

City of New Haven is seeking a General Maintenance/Construction Worker to perform limited skilled manual and servicing work across public works projects. The role involves physical labor, tool operation, and routine supervising checks while performing dirt moving, lawn maintenance, barricade work, and street/lot cleanups.

The position requires a valid Connecticut CDL, adherence to safety procedures, and the ability to work in all weather. Regular 40-hour weeks, 7:00 a.m.

Qualifications

• Three months to one year of experience in maintenance, repair and construction activities, or equivalent training/experience.
• Knowledge and ability to operate standard equipment and hand tools.
• Ability to perform heavy manual labor in varying weather.
• Ability to follow instructions and work with others safely.

Responsibilities

• Shovel dirt, fill trenches, and assist in lawn maintenance and site cleaning.
• Use a table saw to construct barricades and other simple structures.
• Operate power tools and light to medium equipment such as mowers, trucks, tractors, compressors.
• Load/unload materials and assist with waste collection and site cleanup.
• Patch potholes, perform snow removal, and maintain cleanliness of work sites.
• Clean and service equipment as required.
