Job summary

The City of New Bern is seeking a semiskilled maintenance worker to repair and construct buildings, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, streets and drainageways. You will operate a range of vehicles and power tools while ordering parts and assisting with other department tasks as needed.

Thorough knowledge of manual maintenance tasks, the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and the stamina to work in variable weather conditions are essential. High school diploma or equivalent required; CDL may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience as a semiskilled worker in maintenance or construction preferred.
• Ability to operate and maintain general mechanical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Repairs and maintains buildings, sidewalks, curbs, gutters and facilities.
• Operates bucket truck, trucks and other equipment as needed.
• Determines supplies and orders replacement parts to complete tasks.
• Assists with snow removal and other department activities as assigned.
• May work outside normal hours in emergencies.
