Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources seeks a Maintenance/Construction Supervisor I (S) to inspect park facilities, manage housekeeping, grounds, and vehicle maintenance, and supervise repairs and renovations.

You’ll read blueprints, prepare cost estimates, and coordinate with contractors, officials, and regulatory agencies to keep facilities safe and compliant. Monday–Friday 7:30 AM–4:30 PM with occasional evenings/weekends.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge and work experience performing trades in at least three of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or auto mechanics.
• Experience reading and interpreting blueprints/structural specifications and estimating materials.
• Familiarity with building codes and regulations governing repair and maintenance of facilities and machinery.

Responsibilities

Description of Work

Do you enjoy nature and working outside? NC State Parks has a Maintenance Supervisor I position available. This position inspects park facilities and buildings for maintenance and safety hazards and assists with housekeeping, grounds, and vehicle maintenance. The position also involves the operation of water and/or wastewater treatment facilities, reading and interpreting blueprints and structural specification plans for minor and major renovations and repairs, preparing cost estimates for repairs and other projects, and participating in facility master planning.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Develops and implements outside bid packages, reviews and comments on plan sheets from outside designers and contractors, and monitors and inspects contractor construction and renovation projects.
• Serves as a liaison to local officials and/or regulatory agencies and participates in the overall management of the facility/agency.
• Supervises, plans, reviews, and evaluates the work of temporary and permanent employees, community service personnel, and/or volunteers on special projects.
• Provides record-keeping support and prepares basic operational forms.
• Serves as a hands-on technical supervisor managing routine construction, maintenance, and repairs for all facilities, buildings, and structures and/or automotive repairs.
• Maintains stock control procedures for tools, parts, and supplies.
• Advises management concerning the technical aspects of maintaining, replacing, or renovating equipment and facilities.

Position/Physical Requirements:

• Typical work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:30 A.M to 4:30 P.M, must be able to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekends when necessary. This schedule may vary.
• Must have the ability to perform strenuous physical work inside and/or outside with alertness to surroundings in extremes of weather and challenging physical environments with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Must have the ability to move relatively heavy objects (up to 90 pounds) and to work at heavy manual tasks for considerable periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
