Description of Work

Do you enjoy working outside and with your hands? The NC State Parks has a Maintenance/Construction Technician II position available. This role is responsible for hands on work maintaining grounds, buildings, facilities, and equipment. Work includes custodial tasks, boundary line clearing, routine maintenance, trail maintenance, trash collection, mowing and trimming, prescribed burn assistance and/or auto mechanics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operations: opening duties to include basic maintenance and cleaning of facilities
  • Groundskeeping: mowing, tractor operations
  • Trail building and trail maintenance to include footbridges, steps, tree hazard removal
  • Facility maintenance: painting, carpentry, plumbing, air filter replacement, etc. on all buildings
  • Basic automotive and small engine care; cleaning, sharpening blades/ chains, changing oil, etc.

Recruitment Range

$35,596 - $50,000

Physical Requirements

Typical work schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM, must be able to work evenings, holidays, and/or weekends when necessary. This schedule may vary. Must be able to perform work inside and outside in various environmental conditions with or without reasonable accommodation. Must have ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects with or without reasonable accommodation. Must have a valid driver's license issued from within the United States or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment. This Position is designated as Essential/Mandatory and is required to work adverse weather events and may be called to work special events. Within 12-24 months of hire date, must have the ability to obtain and maintain: CPR Certification; Emergency Medical Responder Certification; Wildland Fire Suppression Certifications; Certified in S-112 Chainsaw Operations Training - perform hazardous tree assessments and if necessary, tree removal within the park.

Sign-on Bonus

A sign-on bonus of $1,000 is being offered for eligible candidates. Eligibility and payout contingent on funding availability.

Minimum Education and Experience

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas. OR An equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.

Sign On Bonus Eligibility
