Job summary

Goodwill Industries Group in Gary, IN is seeking a full-time Maintenance Technician to safeguard and operate mechanical systems across the Plant, Salvage Outlet, and Stores. Reports to the Director of Property Management, Facilities and Grounds.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Travel to multiple sites up to 25% may be required. Salary $17 per hour. Drug screen and background checks required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or ability to obtain through The Excel Center.
• Hands-on experience in facility or equipment maintenance is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot and perform minor repairs on mechanical equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow safety protocols.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
• Must have reliable transportation, a current driver's license, and provide proof of insurance to travel to different job sites.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the proper repair, maintenance, and safe operation of all mechanical equipment, promptly addressing any issues to minimize downtime.
• Perform routine cleaning and upkeep of major equipment to maintain efficiency, extend lifespan, and ensure compliance with safety and cleanliness standards.
• Provide maintenance support and perform assigned tasks at any Goodwill location, as needed, to ensure consistent facility operations across all sites.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests or emergencies.
• Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections accurately as required.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other departments to coordinate maintenance activities and report issues.
• Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.

Qualifications:

• Authorized to work in the United States.
• Flexible availability.
• Able to frequently bend, twist, reach above shoulder level, push and pull, crouch or stoop, kneel, repetitively use feet, and use head and neck in a twisting or static motion and to look up and/or down, and lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
