Maintenance Assistant - Full-Time

Visalia Post Acute

Pay Range: $17.48-$17.50 per hour, based on experience

Visalia Post Acute is seeking a dependable and hardworking Full-Time Maintenance Assistant to join our team. This hands-on position helps maintain our building, grounds, equipment, and resident areas in a safe, clean, and efficient condition.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Follow daily work assignments and established preventive-maintenance schedules.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs involving plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plastering, painting, and mechanical systems as directed.
• Maintain grounds, parking areas, driveways, walkways, and other outdoor areas.
• Cut and trim landscaping, sweep outdoor areas, and remove debris as needed.
• Replace burned-out light bulbs, including overhead, fluorescent, exit, and resident call lights.
• Clean windows and screens as directed.
• Assist with servicing heating and cooling systems according to manufacturer instructions and facility procedures.
• Complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks promptly.
• Coordinate maintenance work in resident areas with nursing staff to minimize disruptions.
• Maintain resident rooms, common areas, and facility equipment for comfort, safety, and convenience.
• Inspect tools and equipment and report malfunctions, breakdowns, or safety concerns immediately.
• Maintain adequate supplies in assigned work areas.
• Keep tools, equipment, storage areas, and workspaces clean, secure, and organized.
• Follow established safety precautions when using equipment, chemicals, tools, and supplies.
• Assist with lifting and moving equipment, furniture, and supplies as requested.
• Notify residents before moving personal belongings when completing maintenance work.
• Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed.
• Report accidents and incidents during the shift in which they occur.
• Assist with resident evacuation during an emergency when necessary.
• Protect residents' privacy and maintain the confidentiality of all health information.
• Promptly report suspected or known confidentiality violations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a 10th-grade education required; high school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous maintenance, repair, landscaping, construction, or facilities experience preferred.
• Healthcare, skilled nursing, or long-term-care experience is a plus.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, mechanical, or HVAC systems preferred.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, diagrams, and schedules.
• Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Ability to communicate respectfully with residents, families, employees, visitors, and vendors.
• Willingness to accept feedback and learn new maintenance methods.
• Dependable attendance and a strong commitment to safe work practices.
• Basic mathematical skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.

Physical Requirements

• This position requires regular standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, speaking, and hearing.
• The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds and may be required to assist with heavier equipment or supplies as directed.
• The position may also require assisting with resident evacuation during an emergency.
