What You'll Do
As a Mainenance Assistant, you will maintain the grounds, facility, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Director of Plant & Maintenance Services. Responsibilities include:
- Must maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc. and maintain the appearance of maintenance work areas; minimize waste of supplies.
- Ensure maintenance schedules are followed as outlined for respective shift or area.
- Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be.
- Coordinate daily maintenance services with nursing services when performing routine assignments in resident living areas.
- Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed or called.
- Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs, etc., as scheduled, or as directed.
- Follow all established safety procedures and precautions when performing maintenance services.
- Maintain general facility in good repair, ensuring a safe, clean, and orderly environment.
- Ensure that work/assignment areas are clean and equipment, tools, supplies, etc. are properly stored before leaving such areas on breaks, end of workday, etc.
- Ensure that the facility and its equipment is properly maintained for resident comfort and convenience.
- Assist others in lifting heavy equipment, supplies, etc. as directed or requested.
- Report equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to your supervisor as soon as possible.
- Perform routine maintenance on grounds, parking areas, driveways, etc. by cutting, trimming, policing, sweeping, etc. as necessary/directed.
- Perform routine maintenance and repair on the facility and equipment to include plumbing, plastering electrical, carpentry, mechanical, etc. as directed.
- Clean windows and screens as directed.
- Replace burned out light bulbs, to include exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room call lights, etc. and perform cleaning duties wherever necessary.
- Service heating and cooling units/systems, as specified by the manufacturer, and in compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Performs other related assignments as required.
Qualifications
- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Some experience in a maintenance/plant-related position a plus.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions, to follow instructions and to accept constructive criticism.
- Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
