Job summary

Allure is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to support the Maintenance Department, ensuring a safe, functional, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors. You will coordinate services, respond to maintenance needs, and assist with preventive programs under supervision.

The role involves on-call rotations including evenings and weekends, with additional compensation as per policy. Knowledge of facility systems, safety regulations, and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators, and general mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of building codes, life safety requirements, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Ability to make sound, independent decisions in a timely manner when circumstances require.
  • Ability to interact tactfully and professionally with residents, family members, staff, visitors, regulatory agencies, and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate maintenance services and activities with other departments to ensure continuity of operations and resident safety.
  • Provide written and/or verbal reports and recommendations to the Administrator regarding maintenance operations, needs, and concerns.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of a preventive maintenance program.
  • Perform routine and non-routine repairs to facility and resident property as needed.
  • Coordinate with and oversee outside vendors when repairs cannot be completed internally, ensuring services are completed properly, timely, and cost-effectively in accordance with contracts and work orders.
  • Assist in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related maintenance tasks, including those involving potential exposure to blood or body fluids, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with infection control standards.
  • Inspect storage areas, workrooms, utility rooms, and janitorial closets for cleanliness, safety, organization, and supply control.
  • Participate in facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized government agencies as directed.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring plans of correction for maintenance-related deficiencies identified during surveys and provide written documentation to the Administrator.
  • Stay informed of economic conditions and recommend adjustments to maintenance services that support fiscal responsibility while maintaining a safe and comfortable environment.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all resident information, including protected health information (PHI), and promptly report suspected or known breaches to the Administrator.
  • Supervise and support facility safety, fire protection, and prevention programs by conducting inspections of work areas and equipment at least weekly.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety devices when lifting or moving heavy objects.
  • Ensure all equipment, systems, and supplies are maintained in safe working order and promptly report damage or hazards to the Administrator.
  • Assist in developing and implementing waste disposal policies and procedures specific to the Maintenance Department.
  • Ensure compliance with established policies regarding PPE use and the disposal of infectious and medical waste.
  • Conduct periodic rounds to ensure equipment is available, functioning properly, and being used efficiently to minimize waste.
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is readily available and accessible for maintenance personnel handling infectious or potentially hazardous materials.
  • Ensure equipment contaminated with blood or other infectious materials is properly labeled or tagged prior to repair or decontamination.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies, including adjusting work schedules and prioritizing urgent maintenance needs.
  • Ensure medical waste is disposed of in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

COMPENSATION
  • Starting Pay: $18.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

  • This position may require participation in an on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as determined by facility needs.

  • On-call responsibilities may include responding to urgent maintenance issues, emergency situations, or facility needs outside of regularly scheduled hours.

  • Additional compensation for on-call time or call-back hours will be provided in accordance with facility policy and applicable labor laws.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Assistant supports the planning, organization, development, and direction of the Maintenance Department in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and guidelines. Under the direction of the Administrator, this position helps ensure the facility is maintained in a safe, functional, and comfortable manner for residents, staff, and visitors.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • May be required to assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations.
