Job summary

Beechermanor Extended Care facility is seeking a dedicated Maintenance Assistant to ensure resident safety and comfort by performing repairs, scheduling contractors, and monitoring facility systems. The role requires experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general maintenance, along with a strong focus on safety, organization, and clear English communication.

Qualifications

  • Experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general building maintenance.
  • Understanding of building and fire safety regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi‑task.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy exertion, including standing, reaching, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Ability to lift between 50 and 100 lbs. and be available for after‑hours emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Complete work orders assigned by the Maintenance Director, including changing light bulbs, AC filters, painting, plumbing, light carpentry, fixing sheetrock, and other maintenance duties.
  • Assist with maintenance of facility areas, including grounds, fences, parking areas, furniture, appliances, and HVAC systems.
  • Maintain and repair service equipment, power tools, and kitchen equipment.
  • Keep preventative maintenance records and utilize a work order tracking system.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the building, grounds, and equipment.
  • Identify and resolve potential safety hazards to protect residents, visitors, and staff.
