Job summary

General Dynamics Land Systems Lima, OH is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Team Advisor to lead a skilled crew of tradespeople and oversee maintenance services in support of our manufacturing operations.

You will ensure work is performed to contract specs, apply union agreements, drive safety improvements, and manage schedules, training, and discipline on the shop floor.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen and 18+ years old.
• Ability to obtain Secret security clearance.
• High School diploma; Journeyman/Associate degree preferred.
• 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a skilled trades environment preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead a skilled crew of pipefitters, millwrights and electricians.
• Ensure work assignments meet contract specs, plant procedures, schedules, and cost targets.
• Administer union agreements and collaborate with union leadership.
• Guide crews through company processes to meet commitments and resolve issues.
• Brief teams on directives, performance, schedules, safety, and costs; develop corrective actions.
• Represent the company with vendors for equipment, parts and services.
• Advocate safety and drive improvements to minimize hazards and improve PPE.
• Investigate injuries and incidents for assigned crews/areas.
• Manage schedules, training, investigations and discipline of crews.

Job description

The Facilities Maintenance Team Advisor is a leadership role with responsibility for the effective management of assigned operational/facilities maintenance services and support through a highly skilled crew of craftsmen:

• Successful candidates will have demonstrated leadership ability in applying competitive and innovative work practices with skilled craftsmen (i.e. pipefitters, millwrights, electricians, etc.) to function as a highly performing and self-managed team, utilizing sound decision‑making methods to ensure proper facility and equipment operation.
• Responsible for assigned work crew work assignments being accomplished in accordance to customer contract specifications, established plant procedures, daily schedule requirements, manpower requirements, and cost requirements to meet Company goals.
• Responsible for the administration/application of the union agreements for assigned direct reports. Develop collaborative working relationships with union leadership to affect positive change, drive continuous improvement and advance department business goals.
• Leads work crews in navigating Company processes to deliver on commitments and problem resolutions.
• Conducts individual, work-team and group briefings on work directives, performance, schedules, safety, and costs. Investigates, develops and implements action plans to address and correct deficiencies of the aforementioned items.
• Represents the Company with vendors/contractors in providing technical requirements for purchased equipment, parts and services.
• A safety advocate, driving operational safety/security improvements through identification/corrective actions for hazardous conditions - hazards elimination, engineering controls, revised work practices/procedures and PPE.
• Performs initial occupational injury/illness incidents investigations/reports for assigned work crews/areas.
• Responsible for the work schedules, training, incident investigation and discipline of assigned work crews.

Position Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be a U. S.Citizen
• Must be able to obtain unescorted access to the facility through the Department of Army Police vetting process
• Must be able to obtain / maintain a government issued Secret security clearance
• High School diploma or equivalent required.Journeyman and/or Associate degree in Business or other applicable field of study preferred.
• Must be able to successfully complete the pre-employment process, including drug screen and background check.
• Experience and working knowledge of technical or skilled trades work
• 3-5years experiencein Supervisory role highly preferred; however, extensive experience with Company product and processes may be considered in lieu
• Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills with people at all levels of the organization
• Must be self-motivated
• Familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools is strongly desired.
• Experience leading a unionized workforce is preferred
• Must be able to work flexible hours for shift coverage (i. e.overlapand off-shift) and be actively engaged on the manufacturing floor on a regular basis.
• Must be proficient in MS Word and Excel

Working Conditions & Environment:

• Using ladders to climb into/onto structures
• Climbing, walking, bending, kneeling, standing and stooping.
• Lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Working in and around dust and fumes, moving equipment, and hot/ cold environments
