Qualifications

• BS in Engineering; Mechanical or Electrical preferred.
• Minimum 5 years experience with reliability and production improvement activities in an industrial environment.
• Experience with Troubleshooting and Programming PLCs and DCS, SCADA, boilers and boiler water chemistry, hydraulic systems, vacuum pump systems, air compressors and air dryers, piping diagrams, HVAC and plant ventilation design
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Solid Works, MS Office, CMMS, and use of the internet to locate equipment, parts, and technical information.
• Ability to direct and focus internal and external work groups
• Flexible, hands-on style, able to work well with co-workers

Job description

The Maintenance & Reliability (M&R) Engineer is a salaried position reporting to the M&R Manager. The position requires a strong technical background and good supervisory and organizational skills. The M&R Engineer interacts with people in all levels of the organization, as well as vendors, contractors, and representatives from government agencies, therefore good communication skills are also required. Leadership and attention to detail are required characteristics.

Essential Functions

• Perform Reliability Engineering Functions
• Creating and optimizing preventive and predictive maintenance programs, such as vibration analysis, thermal imaging, and lubrication analysis.
• Using data analysis, failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), and root cause analysis (RCA) to identify and address performance issues.
• Review trends in MTTR and MTBF and develop action plans to improve.
• Maintaining site infrastructure.
• Review and optimize complex systems to improve efficiency, productivity, and over all equipment performance.
• Ergonomic improvements.
• Production ventilation improvement, design and implementation.
• Perform Process Engineering functions
• Recommend design modifications, implement new technologies, or develop training programs to enhance equipment performance
• Maintain control platforms of the process machinery and evaluate to make any changes to improve
• Perform Project Engineering functions
• Develop and present information to attain authorizations for expenditure
• Develop statement of work for the project, both internal and external
• Manage project execution to ensure safe, on time, and on budget
• Ensure all work product considers and upholds EHS standards
• Assist the Maintenance Supervisor, Maintenance Planner, and M&R Manager in the overseeing of the Maintenance Department
• Fill in as required to supervise the maintenance department personnel
• Become an admin level user of the CMMS
• Plan and coordinate maintenance projects
• Direct maintenance personnel and outside contractors to complete projects

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities)

• Reliability engineering skills (predictive maintenance, data analysis, FMEA/RCA, MTTR/MTBF improvement)
• Industrial and process engineering skills (system optimization, ergonomics, ventilation, control platforms)
• Project engineering abilities (scoping, budgeting, planning, and managing safe/on-time/on-budget projects)
• Ability to evaluate equipment performance, recommend improvements, and implement new technologies
• Strong communication and documentation skills, including presenting proposals and developing training
• Leadership and coordination skills to assist maintenance leadership, direct personnel, and manage contractors
• Advanced CMMS skills for planning, tracking, and administering maintenance activities
• Strong EHS awareness to ensure all work meets safety and environmental standards

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position works under minimal supervision. Work is assigned based on expected results and deadlines. The role includes providing guidance to other maintenance personnel during tasks, but it does not have formal supervisory authority.

Frequent walking, climbing, and hands-on work with machinery both indoors and outdoors. Includes exposure to noise, moving equipment, varying weather conditions, and occasionally confined or elevated work areas. Employees must always follow safety procedures and be prepared to navigate a dynamic, physically demanding environment while troubleshooting and repairing equipment throughout the site.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

Exempt, salary position. Expected to work a full-time schedule and maintain the hours necessary to fulfill job responsibilities. Work hours may vary based on operational needs and can include occasional extended hours, weekend work, or adjusted schedules. Reliable attendance, flexibility, and the ability to meet deadlines are essential to success in this role.
