Job summary

The Hallsville R-IV School District is seeking a Maintenance and Grounds Person to maintain buildings and school grounds throughout the district. Responsibilities include construction, maintenance, and repairs of district property including playgrounds, sidewalks, parking lots, trees, bushes, fences, flag poles, stormwater, snow removal, and signs.

Position requires operating various groundskeeping equipment, performing preventive maintenance, and collaborating with teachers and staff.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; valid Missouri state motor vehicle operator’s license; good driving record.
  • Ability to maintain a cooperative and positive relationship with other people.
  • Willingness to learn playground construction and maintenance, snow/ice removal, and related tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, tractors, bobcats, vehicles, and other groundskeeping tools.
  • Plant, trim, and maintain shrubs and trees; perform concrete and asphalt work; mow grass.
  • Install, repair, and inspect playground surfaces, borders, and equipment; remove snow and ice; maintain athletic fields.
  • Perform other duties to support the district mission; assist PBIS implementation for student safety.

Job Description

The Hallsville R-IV School District is seeking a Maintenance and Grounds Person to maintain buildings and school grounds throughout the district. Maintenance Staff is responsible for construction, maintenance, and repairs of Hallsville R-IV district property, including, but not limited to, playgrounds, sidewalks, parking lots, trees, bushes, fences, flag poles, stormwater, snow and ice removal, dirt work, and signs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operating gasoline and diesel-powered equipment, tractors, bobcats, vehicles, and other groundskeeping equipment
  • Planting, trimming, and tending to shrubs and trees
  • Completing concrete and asphalt work
  • Mowing grass
  • Installing, maintaining, repairing, and inspecting playground surfaces, borders, and equipment
  • Removing snow and ice
  • Preparing and caring for athletic fields for games and practices
  • Performing physical labor tasks, including moving furniture
  • Using hand tools and power tools
  • Interacting with teachers, staff, and students courteously
  • Installing, caring for, and maintaining irrigation systems
  • Assures proper safety standards and precautions are followed
  • Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and assures equipment is in proper working order
  • Is available for emergency clean up, to include snow and ice removal, outside of the regular work hours
  • Perform other duties as necessary to support the mission and vision of Hallsville School District
  • Support the implementation of PBISstrategies to promote positive behavior and a safe, respectful learning environment for students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent; Proof of valid Missouri state motor vehicle operator’s license; good driving record; Ability to maintain a cooperative and positive relationship with other people.

Preferred: High School Diploma; Knowledge of or willingness to learn playground construction and maintenance, concrete, asphalt, construction and snow, and ice removal; Self-motivated; Have a positive history working in a group environment; excellent driving record

The employee is frequently required to reach, climb, bend, squat, stoop and kneel; The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp and use tools and climb ladders; The employee must frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds; The employee will frequently push or pull items such as desks, furniture, and mechanical equipment; Specific vision requirements include close and peripheral vision and depth perception.These are essential functions of the job.

Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential duty of this position.

Conditions and Environment: The duties of this job require the employee to regularly works both indoors and outdoors; The employee may work in inclement weather, extreme heat and cold temperatures; The employee will work near or with moving mechanical equipment; The employee may occasionally work with toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate but can occasionally be loud.These are essential functions of the job.
