Job summary

The Faraway Company (Half Acre Beer Company x Maplewood Brewery and Distillery) seeks a Maintenance & Facilities Manager to oversee upkeep, safety, and compliance across our Chicago-area facilities, including Balmoral and occasional visits to Logan Square and Glen Ellyn.

You will lead a team of technicians, manage equipment maintenance (brewhouse, packaging lines, HVAC), develop preventive maintenance programs, and coordinate with contractors while controlling budgets and optimizing CMMS

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years managing facility operations.
• Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Experience reading blueprints, schematics and equipment manuals.
• Effective communicator with training and mentoring abilities.
• Proven ability to manage budgets and vendors in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Direct, supervise, and evaluate the maintenance team; ensure safety and efficiency.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair brewery production equipment and packaging systems.
• Schedule external contractors and oversee capital projects and renovations.
• Develop and oversee preventive maintenance programs and CMMS optimization.
• Coordinate with internal teams to minimize downtime and ensure GMP compliance.
• Prepare specifications, bid docs, and oversee projects by outside contractors.

JOB SUMMARY:The Maintenance & Facilities Manager at The Faraway Company (Half Acre Beer Company x Maplewood Brewery and Distillery) is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and compliance of all company facilities and reports to the Director of Operations. This hands-on technical role oversees the facilities and equipment management, maintenance, and engineering for all facilities. This involves compliance with local codes and ordinances, equipment installation, contractor management, production maintenance, planning repair activities, and developing and refining maintenance procedures. You and a small team of technicians work closely with all company departments as a service to ensure their facilities and equipment are kept safe and well-functioning via preventative maintenance while working towards continually decreasing unplanned downtime.The company has three locations to maintain: this position will primarily work at the main production facility at the Balmoral location, although some visits to the Logan Square and Glen Ellyn locations will be required. Core responsibilities include upkeep of critical systems; sourcing, installation, and upkeep of parts and equipment; upkeep of physical structures and spaces; managing equipment and PM vendors and finding efficiencies wherever possible. Excellent organizational and leadership abilities can set you apart among our candidate pool.RESPONSIBILITIES:Commitment to company safety program and ensuring company safety standards set by The Faraway Company and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), as well as established Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)Direct, supervise, and evaluate maintenance team; ensures team works safely and efficiently in completing assigned tasksMaintain, troubleshoot, and repair brewery production equipment, including brewhouse and cellar systems, high-speed beverage packaging systems including can filler, double seamer, keg-wash/fill line, conveyance, etc.Ensure staff receives training related to specific job tasks and responsibilities; works to further develop the teamTimely and professional communication with internal and external customers, suppliers, contractors and vendorsSchedules, directs and oversees external contractors (custodians, electricians, plumbers, excavators, roofers, painters, landscapers, HVAC, etc.)Responsible for security, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC servicesSchedule trash/recycling, snow removal, pest management, fire alarm and fire extinguisher services, among othersPlan and oversee all repair and installation activities; this will occasionally involve working early morning, late night or weekend shifts to avoid production downtimeDevelop and monitor department budget; orders equipment and supplies and monitors inventory; makes requests for capital outlay expenditures as neededDevelops, implements, and supervises preventative maintenance and renovation programs for buildings, grounds, mechanical and electrical, utility, and safety and security systemsOptimization of CMMS and Packaging efficiency softwareIdentify opportunities to implement Autonomous Maintenance principles, develop implementation plan, and execute to planPrepare specifications for physical plant projects; estimates costs of equipment, materials, labor, and supplies; prepares bid specifications for projects, equipment, and contracted services; oversees site and building projects performed by outside contractorsPersonally perform maintenance tasks when necessaryPerform other related tasks as requestedLocal travel to other Chicago/land locations as neededREQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:Must be 21+ years oldMinimum 3 years managing facility operationsStrong knowledge of engineering concepts, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systemsGreat time management, organization, and prioritization abilitiesAbility to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and equipment manualsStrong communication skills and ability to train, guide and mentor other techniciansKeen attention to detail and efficient problem-solving skillsDemonstrated use of asset management softwareProficient in Microsoft Office suiteFood and Beverage facility experience, and particularly Beverage, is highly preferredBENEFICIAL EXPERIENCE:5-10 years progressive maintenance/facility management experienceBachelor’s degree in Engineering or Project Management or related major.
