Job summary

Towanda Area School District is seeking a Maintenance professional to support district buildings, grounds and equipment with emphasis on HVAC and electrical systems. The role reports to the Maintenance Supervisor and aims to ensure reliable operation and safety across all facilities.

Responsibilities include monitoring HVAC systems, performing repairs, coordinating with outside contractors, and upholding district safety standards while serving as a role model for students and staff in public

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree preferred; HVAC, electrical, and contracting experience required.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, HVAC and electrical trades.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Pre-employment medical exam, criminal history and clearance reports required per state rules.
  • Strong organizational and math skills.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and ensure efficient operation of district HVAC systems.
  • Monitor buildings and equipment to ensure proper operations.
  • Maintain and repair facilities as required.
  • Assist in determining which jobs should be performed by outside contractors.
  • Inform the Maintenance Supervisor of hazardous conditions and/or repair work that is needed or completed.
  • Complete work orders as assigned and report any deviation to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Provide leadership for assigned tasks.
  • Account for material and labor in relation to assignments.
  • Maintain compliance with safety and code requirements/guidelines.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students in the education profession.

JOB SUMMARY

Assist in maintaining the district’s buildings, grounds and equipment with an emphasis on HVAC and electrical systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor and ensure efficient operation of district HVAC systems.
  • Monitor buildings and equipment to ensure proper operations.
  • Maintain and repair facilities as required.
  • Assist in determining which jobs should be performed by outside contractors.
  • Inform the Maintenance Supervisor of hazardous conditions and/or repair work that is needed or completed.
  • Complete work orders as assigned and report any deviation from them to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Provide leadership for assigned tasks.
  • Account for material and labor in relation to assignments.
  • Maintain compliance with all safety and code requirements/guidelines of state, local and Board policies.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students in all aspects of performance, demonstrating pride in the honorable profession of public education.
MARGINAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assume responsibility of Maintenance Supervisor in his/her absence.
  • Make inquiries and/or purchases as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Assist in snow removal and salting as necessary to provide free access to all entrances, exits and walks.
  • Maintain all assigned tools, vehicles and equipment in a clean and responsible manner.
  • Perform backup duties of the pool systems operator.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops and conferences as required.
  • Support public education and student achievement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate’s degree preferred
  • Experience in HVAC, electrical fields, and general contracting
  • Must possess experience and understanding of mechanical systems, HVAC, electrical systems and the trades.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills
  • Must possess excellent math skills
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Submission of pre-employment medical examination (Section 148 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
  • Submission of a report of criminal history record from the Pennsylvania State Police (Section 111 of the Pennsylvania School Code)
  • Submission of clearance report from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare in accordance with Act 151 of 1994
  • Submission of Federal Criminal History Record in accordance with Act 114 of 2006
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to reach above and below the waist
  • Ability to use fingers to pick, feel and grasp objects
  • Ability to perform repetitive motion
  • Ability to lift/carry supplies weighing 80 lbs.
  • Ability to climb, crouch, stoop, kneel, crawl and reach overhead while standing
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of the workday

  • Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
