Job summary

International Paper in Bedford Park, IL is seeking a maintenance technician for a night shift (11:00 pm–7:00 am, Mon–Fri) to support a fast-paced box plant. The role combines mechanical, electrical, and PLC knowledge to maximize machine uptime.

You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, document activities, work with teams, and may cross-train in other areas. Compensation starts at $33.95 per hour with a $0.30 shift differential and generous sign-on/retention bonuses.

Qualifications

• High school diploma preferred.
• Two years of work experience in a maintenance/manufacturing environment.
• Experience in corrugated industry is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Follow all safety rules and practices.
• Perform preventive maintenance: lubrication, wear measurements, component checks, and monitoring vibrations/noise.
• Perform emergency/breakdown maintenance to support plant operations.
• Accurately use measurement and test equipment.
• Carry out electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic repairs and installations as needed.
• Keep work areas clean and organized; document tasks and records.
• Cross-train in other technical areas to enhance capabilities.
• Work flexible shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.
• Operate computer system for maintenance processes, stores, and work orders.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

Pay Rate: $33.95/hr (plus .30 cents for 3 rd Shift Differential) - Level 1

Sign-on and Retention Bonus: $500 after 30 days, $500 after 6 months, $500 after 1 year and an additional bonus at 2 years

The Job You Will Perform

This position is responsible for safely providing maintenance support to our fast-pace Box Plant. We require both excellent mechanical skills and knowledge (pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings, power transmission, lubrication) and electrical/electronic skills and knowledge (PLCs, A/C, D/C motors and drives, schematics) in our continuous process manufacturing environment to achieve machine uptime metrics. Work positively with teams to troubleshoot and solve problems and be engaged in preventative maintenance processes in assigned areas.

Specific Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

• Following all safety rules and practices
• Performing preventive maintenance activities such as lubricating, measuring wear, measuring positions, repositioning components; and observing operations, vibrations, and noise levels.
• Performing emergency / break down maintenance as necessary to support plant operations.
• Accurately using measurement and test equipment.
• Performing electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, steam system, and other repairs and installations as needed.
• Maintaining clean and organized work areas, and cleaning up work areas as part of completing assigned tasks.
• Accurately and completely prepare and maintain maintenance records and other paperwork.
• Trouble-shooting and solving problems.
• Excellent teamwork, cooperation and problem solving skills.
• Willingness to fully cross train in other technical areas to enhance capabilities.
• Candidates must be willing to work alternative shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.
• Able to work with computer system for maintenance processes, stores and work orders.
• Performing other duties as assigned by supervision.

Minimum qualifications for consideration are a high school degree (Preferred), and two years of work experience in a Maintenance manufacturing environment with at least one year with the same employer. Highly-qualified candidates would possess manufacturing experience in the corrugated industry.

The hiring process for successful candidates will include a pre-employment, 4-hour aptitude and Maintenance test prior to a team interview.
