Job description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

This position performs janitorial, custodial, housekeeping,grounds keeping, or maintenance tasks.

Primary work will be cleaning campus property such as offices,classrooms, corridors, walls, floors, windows, furniture, woodwork,toilets, lavatories or fixtures by washing, waxing, buffing,sweeping, polishing, dusting, or vacuum cleaning, and emptying andcleaning waste barrels, garbage cans, and other wastereceptacles.

Maintainers are designated as essential personnel with requiredsnow removal duties.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Incumbents of positions at this level receive supervision frommaintainers or other employees of higher grade, who provideinstruction, assign work and review performance through verbalreports and visual inspection for compliance and instructions andestablished standards.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Incumbents of positions at this level may exercise functionalsupervision(i.e. over certain but not all activities or over someor all work activities on a temporary basis) over 1-5 serviceand/or maintenance personnel.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Maintainers stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, liftand carry heavy objects: work outdoors in all types of weather,worked varies shifts, weekends, holidays, or nights, are exposed tothe hazard of wet, slippery floors, work under exposure to thehazards to chemicals, toxic and noxious fumes, dust, excessiveheat, high noise levels, high volume traffic conditions, and highvoltage wires, work from ladders and scaffolds, and may be requiredto climb trees and operate motor vehicles.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, benefits-eligible position inthe American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees(AFSCME) bargaining unit with a title of Maintainer I. Thebi-weekly pay rate is $1,740.88 (grade 10, step 1). This is anannual base salary of approximately $45,262.61.
