Job summary

Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. is seeking a Plant Operator to install, operate, maintain, and repair water treatment equipment across production facilities.

The role involves reading meters, adjusting chemical treatment systems, and ensuring proper plant operation on a Sun–Thu schedule with an hourly pay of $49.57. Candidates should have a high school diploma and demonstrate technical ability in plant operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • NYS Grade IIB Treatment Plant Operator’s License required or must be obtained within 24 months.
  • Demonstrated technical ability related to plant equipment, operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Computer literate with the ability to learn company systems and software.

Responsibilities

  • Install, operate, maintain, and repair plant equipment, including pumps, diesel engines, treatment equipment, and related systems.
  • Adjust chemical treatment systems, read meters and gauges, and conduct chemical tests.
  • Grease, oil, and maintain equipment to support proper operation.
  • Operate company water filtration and treatment plants.
  • Receive and supervise water treatment chemical deliveries.
  • Determine whether machinery and equipment are operating properly and make repairs when necessary.
  • Read instrumentation and water quality equipment accurately.

Purpose

The Position requires demonstrated technical abilities, which would be associated with work involved in installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of all plant equipment, such as pumps, diesel engines, treatment equipment, etc. In addition to a thorough knowledge of plant operations is required.

Sun‑Thurs 4pm‑12am

Hourly Rate: $49.57

Accountabilities

Work is performed in Production Department facilities throughout the service territory. The role involves shift-type work, which may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and emergency call‑out as scheduled.
