Sunstall Inc. in Prineville, OR, is hiring a Mainline Equipment Operator to support underground utility crews on civil construction projects across Central Oregon.

You will operate excavators, trench for water, sewer, and storm drains, and coordinate with pipe crews while maintaining grade, trench safety, and production on active sites. The role requires experience with underground utility excavation, reading grade stakes, and a strong focus on safety.

Qualifications

• Experience operating excavators on underground utility installation projects.
• Ability to read grade stakes and maintain trench elevations.
• Experience working with pipe crews in trenching environments.
• Able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Strong safety mindset and situational awareness.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators and heavy equipment to trench for underground utilities.
• Work with pipelayers and ground crews to install water, sewer, and storm drains.
• Maintain trench grade and alignment using grade stakes and lasers.
• Excavate safely around existing utilities and ensure trench safety practices.
• Prepare bedding and support pipe placements.
• Install trench boxes and assist trench protection methods.
• Read and interpret grade stakes, plans, and layouts.
• Perform daily equipment inspections, maintenance, and fueling.
• Stay aware of ground personnel and changing jobsite conditions.
• Follow all safety procedures around active construction.
