System One is seeking a Mainframe Modernization Engineer in Lafayette, LA to analyze COBOL programs, validate and modify code, and modernize data processing with DB2 and SQL. The role combines onsite and remote work in a hybrid model and requires strong debugging, testing, and collaboration within Agile teams.

Qualifications

• 8+ years hands-on experience with Mainframe development including COBOL, JCL, VSAM and DB2.
• Strong COBOL,JCL, DB2 and SQL development experience.
• Experience with Endevor, deployment, and release management.
• Proficient debugging/troubleshooting using tools like Xpeditor.

Responsibilities

• Analyze existing COBOL programs and understand business/technical logic.
• Review and modify COBOL code as needed.
• Refactor COBOL to support DB2-based data processing and validate SQL/data access logic.
• Develop and modify JCL, execute mainframe jobs, and troubleshoot abends and failures.
• Perform unit/integration/regression testing ensuring equivalence to legacy applications.
• Troubleshoot COBOL/JCL/DB2/data issues using tools like Xpeditor.
• Manage code promotion, packaging, and deployments with Endevor.
• Collaborate with Agile teams following SDLC and coding standards.
