Job summary

HCLTech in the United States is seeking a Senior Mainframe Migration Project Manager to lead complex enterprise transformation projects, migrating mission-critical mainframe environments to modern platforms. The role requires strategic leadership, deep PM expertise, and strong stakeholder engagement to drive end-to-end migration programs.

You will coordinate cross-functional teams, manage risks, ensure business continuity, and govern delivery across z/OS, COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL, and VSAM.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of project management experience leading large-scale enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Proven experience leading mainframe migration, modernization, data center transformation, or application migration programs.
  • Strong understanding of mainframe technologies including: z/OS, COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL, VSAM.
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams across infrastructure, applications, networking, data, security, and business operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder environments and executive communications.

Senior Mainframe Migration Project Manager
About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Migration Project Manager to lead complex enterprise transformation initiatives involving the migration of mission-critical mainframe environments to modern platforms. This role requires a strategic leader with deep project management expertise, strong stakeholder engagement skills, and a solid understanding of mainframe technologies, enterprise infrastructure, and large-scale migration programs.

The successful candidate will drive end-to-end migration efforts, coordinating cross-functional teams, managing risks, and ensuring business continuity throughout the modernization journey.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end mainframe migration and modernization projects involving technologies such as z/OS, COBOL, DB2, CICS, networking, and distributed systems.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive project plans, schedules, budgets, resource allocations, and dependencies across multiple workstreams.
  • Coordinate infrastructure, application, data, security, testing, and business teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Drive alignment among client stakeholders, vendors, and third-party service providers throughout the migration lifecycle.
  • Facilitate executive steering committees, technical workshops, status reviews, and governance meetings.
Stakeholder Management
  • Build trusted relationships with executive leadership, technical teams, business stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Communicate project status, risks, milestones, dependencies, and critical decisions clearly and effectively.
  • Prepare executive-level presentations and project health reports.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to data integrity, system compatibility, resource availability, security, and business continuity.
  • Support organizational change management activities to ensure successful adoption of new platforms and processes.
  • Escalate critical issues and migration challenges to leadership with recommended mitigation strategies.
Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure migration activities adhere to organizational policies, security standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Oversee testing, validation, cutover planning, and post-migration stabilization activities.
  • Maintain project governance artifacts including RAID logs, change requests, lessons learned, and decision records.
  • Track project budgets, resource utilization, forecasts, purchase orders, and overall financial performance.
  • Monitor project KPIs and provide timely reporting on progress, quality, risks, and business outcomes.
  • Manage support cases and vendor engagements as necessary throughout project delivery.
Required Qualifications
  • 10+ years of Project Management experience leading large-scale enterprise technology initiatives.
  • Proven experience leading mainframe migration, modernization, data center transformation, or application migration programs.
  • Strong understanding of mainframe technologies including:
  • z/OS
  • COBOL
  • DB2
  • CICS
  • JCL
  • VSAM
  • Experience managing cross-functional teams across infrastructure, applications, networking, data, security, and business operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder environments and executive communications.
  • Strong knowledge of project governance, risk management, budgeting, forecasting, and resource planning.
  • Experience with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid delivery methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, SAFe, or equivalent project management certification.
  • Experience with cloud migration and modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with enterprise architecture and application modernization strategies.
  • Experience within highly regulated industries such as financial services, healthcare, insurance, telecommunications, or government.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range Minimum: $ 95000 per year

Pay Range Maximum: $ 140,000 per year

A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law.
