Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services in McLean, VA, is seeking an experienced Mainframe COBOL/JCL professional to develop and maintain batch and online programs. You will work with Hogan core banking systems, z/OS, TSO/ISPF, and modern tooling to ensure reliable processing and prompt incident resolution.

This role emphasizes strong SDLC knowledge (Waterfall/Agile), batch processing, and production support, with opportunities to extend skills in DB2, CICS/IMS, and mainframe modernization.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience in COBOL (Enterprise COBOL / VS COBOL II).
• Strong hands-on experience in JCL.
• Knowledge of Hogan core banking systems and integration with COBOL/JCL.
• Mainframe environment expertise: z/OS, TSO/ISPF.
• File handling with VSAM, sequential files, SORT utilities.
• Ability to debug, resolve incidents, and manage batch processing.
• Familiarity with SDLC and production support processes.

Responsibilities

• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical designs.
• Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL programs (batch/online).
• Create and modify JCL jobs, procedures, and utilities for batch processing.
• Support Hogan systems and mainframe interfaces.
• Perform unit testing and participate in system/integration testing.
• Troubleshoot batch failures and production incidents within SLAs.
• Coordinate with DBAs and support teams for DB2 access and tuning.
• Utilize Control-M/CA7 for scheduling and monitoring.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and solution designs.
• Develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL programs (batch and/or online).
• Create and modify JCL jobs, procedures, and utilities to support batch processing.
• Support, troubleshoot, and enhance mainframe applications and interfaces involving Hogan systems.
• Perform unit testing, support system/integration testing, and participate in implementation activities.
• Troubleshoot and resolve batch failures/job abends, performance issues, and production incidents within SLAs.
• Work with datasets and file processing involving VSAM and sequential files.
• Interact with DBAs/Support teams for DB2 (or other databases) access, SQL tuning, and issue resolution.
• Utilize scheduling and monitoring tools such as Control-M/CA7 (as applicable).
• Ensure adherence to coding standards, documentation practices, and change management processes (Endevor/Changeman/Git).
• Provide regular status updates and contribute to operational readiness and continuous improvements.
