Job summary

NLB Services is seeking an experienced Mainframe Engineer to design, develop, and lead stock plan services applications on IBM Z/OS within an Agile environment. The role emphasizes architecture leadership, performance tuning, and on-site/on-call SME responsibilities.

The candidate will own end-to-end SDLC, collaborate across business, QA and management, and drive on-time, on-budget delivery while mentoring team members in a hybrid Boston environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of mainframe development/leadership in brokerage/stock-plan systems.
• Strong hands-on COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, VSAM, MQ, SQL skills.
• Experience in Agile teams with end-to-end SDLC ownership.

Responsibilities

• Gather requirements, design, develop, test and support stock plan/brokerage mainframe apps.
• Lead technical design, architecture, and implementation for scalable solutions.
• Tune performance and plan capacity using specialized tools.
• Provide on-site/on-call SME support and ensure QA readiness.
• Collaborate with business, QA and management; mentor team and lead Agile ceremonies.
• Own project planning, scheduling, risk assessment, and on-time delivery.

Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Engineer to design, develop, and lead complex stock plan services applications on IBM Z/OS in an Agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Gather requirements, design, develop, test, and support mainframe applications for stock plan/brokerage systems.
• Lead technical design, architecture, and implementation while ensuring scalability, extensibility, and adherence to standards.
• Perform performance tuning and capacity planning (reduce I/O, CPU time, MSUs, MIPS) using tools such as Strobe, iStrobe, Platinum Detector.
• Provide on-site/on-call support, act as SME in incident/crisis management, and ensure QA readiness of deliverables.
• Collaborate with business, QA, and multiple management layers; lead Agile ceremonies and mentor team members.
• Own project planning, scheduling, risk assessment, documentation, and on-time/on-budget delivery.

Required Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/Engineering/IT/IS/Math/Physics (or equivalent) + 5+ years of mainframe development/technical lead experience in brokerage or stock plan services systems
• OR
• Master’s degree in a related field + 3+ years of equivalent experience.
• Strong hands-on expertise in COBOL, CICS, DB2, JCL, VSAM, MQ, SQL.
• Proven experience in mainframe performance tuning, capacity planning, and production support.
• Experience working in Agile teams with end-to-end SDLC ownership.
