Job summary

Office of the State Treasurer in West Columbia, TX is seeking an experienced Enterprise COBOL developer to extend a legacy mainframe accounting platform. The role focuses on building a new pooled-account structure, validating balance accuracy, and ensuring traceability of every cent within a regulated environment.

You will work on reading large COBOL code, designing the new account type, updating batch processes, and delivering comprehensive documentation for ongoing support and audits.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Enterprise COBOL development on z/OS.
• 5+ years of NaturalOne experience.
• 3+ years in JCL development and production support.
• 3+ years in financial/accounting systems development including double-entry, balance, accrual, reconciliation.
• 3+ years with Adabas and VSAM.
• 3+ years tracing undocumented logic in copybooks and job streams.

Responsibilities

• Analyze the current account master, posting, and balance-maintenance programs to identify recognition points for composite reservoir accounts.
• Design and code the new account type end to end: master file and table structures, opening/closing, linkage, sweep logic, allocation, and closing balance derivation.
• Modify batch COBOL programs and JCL; extend nightly and month-end cycles without extending batch window.
• Add CRAs to the audit trail, reporting, and reconciliation controls; work with accounting stakeholders to determine evidencing.
• Produce test data, unit and regression test packs; run parallel-run comparisons and investigate differences.
• Support implementation and conversion of in-scope accounts; provide on-call coverage during initial cycles.
• Leave behind documentation, data-flow notes, and runbook updates for the support team.
