Job summary

StradIT is seeking a Senior Mainframe Capacity Planning Engineer to lead monitoring, analysis and reporting of mainframe capacity. You will collect, process, and validate system resource data and business volumes for forward-looking analysis using data science techniques.

The role requires experience with SAS on mainframe and in distributed environments, along with familiarity with MICS/MXG, SMF, RMF, CICS, DB2 and MQ. Strong analytical skills and experience building reports are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics / statistics preferred or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

• Run and validate the Data Collection and Reporting process using scheduling software.
• Design basic reports using SAS
• Build and edit JCL in ISPF
• Create and update policies, job aids and other documentation.
• Learn MICS/MXG Database Architecture and diagnose MICS related errors.
• Execute and validate MICS administrative tasks to maintain proper maintenance.
• Collect and report business volume data from varied sources.
• Perform risk assessments of extreme market conditions for selected business streams.
• Produce/update a Business Process Requirements document for selected streams.
• Organize and store Capacity Planning artifacts for future retrieval.
• Develop ad hoc reports for senior business and management forums.

Role: Mainframe Capacity Planning Engineer

Position Summary

The Senior Capacity Planning Engineer for Mainframe works directly with a team responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting mainframe processing capacity at DTCC. The successful candidate will collect, process and validate system resource data along with business volume data for future analysis using sound data science principles. One should have a basic understanding of Mainframe while knowledgeable of sources and tools used to collect, validate, then process required system data. One should have a solid background in descriptive statistics to extrapolate insight from large quantities of raw data using SAS software on the mainframe and in distributed environments.

Specific Responsibilities

Mainframe capacity planning

• Run and validate the Data Collection and Reporting process using scheduling software.
• Design basic reports using SAS
• Build and Edit JCL in ISPF
• Creating / Updating policies, job aids and other documentation

MICS/MXG support and maintenance

• Learn MICS/MXG Database Architecture
• Diagnose MICS related errors.
• Able to execute and validate MICS administrative tasks to maintain proper maintenance.

Data analysis - Descriptive Statistics

• Basic methods to Summarize Data
• Display data in an organized manner.
• Able to identify, describe patterns and relationships.

Business volumes and other reporting

• Collection and reporting of business volume data from varied sources.
• Risk assessments of extreme market conditions for selected business streams
• Produce/update a Business Process Requirements document for selected business streams.

Management / Regulatory / Audit

• Organize and store Capacity Planning artifacts in their proper location for future retrieval.
• Ad hoc report development for senior business and management forums

Mitigates risk by following established procedures and monitoring controls, spotting key errors and demonstrating strong ethical behavior.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of related experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a mathematics / statistics discipline preferred or equivalent work experience

Specific Skills & Technologies

• SAS experience required.
• Understanding of mainframe technology and components
• MICS/MXG experience essential.
• Familiarity with mainframe capacity / performance data (SMF, RMF, CICS, DB2, MQ)
• MS Office skills, in particular intermediate PowerPoint, and Excel skills
• Excellent analytical skills including data exploration, analysis, and production of models.
• Solid background with Descriptive Statistics
• Inferential Statistics are a plus.
