Sargent is looking for an experienced Shop Foreman to lead our Stillwater, ME maintenance shop. This is a hands‑on leadership role: you'll direct a team of mechanics, keep preventive maintenance and repairs moving across our truck and heavy equipment fleet, and make sure our crews in the field always have reliable, well‑maintained machines to work with. You'll turn a wrench yourself only when it counts — on the tough diagnostic calls or when the shop needs an extra set of experienced hands — but day to day, you're running the shop: setting priorities, training mechanics, and keeping parts, vendors, and repair records on track.
You’ll report to the Equipment Superintendent – North and work closely with our Field Maintenance Foreman, Parts, and OEM/dealer service partners to keep downtime low and our fleet productive.
Work Environment: Primarily shop-based, with regular exposure to noise, grease, fuel, and hydraulic fluids around heavy machinery. Requires lifting and carrying tools and parts (up to 50 lbs. regularly, more with mechanical or fellow employee‑owner assistance), working in varied positions for extended periods, and occasional outdoor/jobsite work in seasonal New England weather for field support calls.
Sargent has built infrastructure across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic since 1926, when founder Herbert E. Sargent started with a single dump truck in Alton, Maine. Nearly a century later, that same hands‑on, get‑it‑done spirit drives a full‑service heavy civil contractor working on airports, highways, landfills, renewable energy sites, and municipal infrastructure from Maine to Virginia and North Carolina.
In 2013, Sargent became 100% employee‑owned. Today, more than 650 employee‑owners share directly in the company's success — and have a real stake in how the work gets done.
