Job summary

The Alaska Department of Corrections, Goose Creek Correctional Center, seeks a Mail Services Courier in Mackenzie Point, AK. The successful candidate will pick up, stamp, sort, and process mail for inmates and staff, maintaining logs and ensuring cost-effective shipping options.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the training plan developed for the Mail Services Trainee.
• Or one year of work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform responsibly and independently.
• Possession of a valid Alaska driver’s license and being 18 years of age or older.

Responsibilities

• Pick up mail and packages from US Postal Office and package center; average mail count per day is 900 pieces.
• Date stamp all incoming mail with date received, and sort mail by inmate vs staff to distribute, x-ray, inspect, or scan.
• Receive outgoing mail from staff and inmates, determine most cost-effective method for shipping option, and affix appropriate postage.
• Maintain logs for all incoming and outgoing mail, postage meter, and input inmate postage charges onto the inmate accounts.
