Job description

Job Title: Mail Clerk

Ensures prompt and efficient mail and package sorting, processing, and delivery for Tarrant County buildings while adhering to USPS regulations and established Tarrant County SOPs, policies, and procedures. Utilizes mail technologies for sorting, sealing, weighing, data capture, and tracking, and performs data entry. Uses safety procedures to identify suspicious mail.

  1. Enters various classes of mail and packages into database using specialized software, including signature and tracking functions for sensitive and signature-required mail.
  2. Processes and monitors e-Certified mail and packages.
  3. Operates mobile signature capture and tracking devices, utilizing database features to locate mail and signatures upon request.
  4. Verifies meter output for quality control of daily outgoing totals using specialized software.
  5. Inputs totals into spreadsheets for documentation; may upload funds if accounts show minimal balance, and notifies supervisor for approval and quality control review.
  6. Delivers packages received by outside carriers to downtown buildings following safety protocols.
  7. Monitors mail and packages for suspicious activity, notifies supervisor immediately, and takes appropriate safety steps per USPS policy, including notifying authorities if necessary.
  8. Assists customers with mail and package tracking, policies, and procedures.
  9. Delivers and picks up mail at the post office, sorts incoming, outgoing, and interoffice mail, and prepares certified, restricted delivery, FedEx, UPS, USPS, and Airborne shipments.
  10. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years of full-time clerical experience, preferably in a mailroom or shipping environment.
  • Ability to pass Sheriff's Department background check.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of presort and postage requirements.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to read, sort, deliver, and process mail and packages.
  • Proficiency with touch screen mailing machines and barcode scanners.
  • Microsoft Office skills.
  • Ability to operate a commercial vehicle safely.
Additional Requirements:

Candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug test. Proof of educational attainment is required at hire. Background checks, including criminal, may be conducted. Ability to perform physical tasks and work overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required.
