Ensures prompt and efficient mail and package sorting, processing, and delivery for Tarrant County buildings while adhering to USPS regulations and established Tarrant County SOPs, policies, and procedures. Utilizes a variety of mail technologies to perform sorting, sealing, weighing, data capture, and mail tracking and perform data entry. Utilizes safety procedures to discern suspicious mail.
- Utilizing special software, enters various classes of mail and packages into database and utilizes signature and tracking functions when necessary to ensure delivery of sensitive and signature capture mail.
- Processes and monitors e-Certified mail and packages.
- Operates mobile signature capture and tracking devices. Utilizes tracking database features to locate mail and signatures received upon demand.
- Verifies meter output for quality control of daily outgoing totals using specialized software.
- Inputs totals into spreadsheets to document running daily balances and may upload funds upon if accounts show minimal balance. Notifies supervisor for approvals and reviews for quality control.
- Delivers packages received by outside carriers to all downtown buildings per safety protocols.
- Monitors mail and packages using suspicious mail criteria and notifies supervisor immediately while taking appropriate cautionary steps per USPS policy. Notifies the appropriate authorities.
- Assists customers with mail and package tracking, policies, and mail process information.
- Delivers and picks up mail at the post office. Sorts incoming, outgoing, and interoffice mail for pickup and delivery to County buildings and internal P.O. boxes. Prepares certified, restricted delivery, Fed-Ex, UPS, USPS, and Airborne mail and packages.
- Performs all other related duties as required.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two (2) Full-Time years of clerical experience required, preferably in a mailroom or shipping and receiving environment.
- Applicant must be able to pass Sheriff's Department background check.
- Must have a current and valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- General knowledge of presort and postage requirements.
- Good telephone and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to read, sort, deliver, and process mail and packages.
- Must be able to operate touch screen mailing machines and hand-held barcode scanners.
- Must be able to operate a commercial vehicle safely.

Tarrant County will conduct background checks on new hires that will include a criminal background check related to convictions and deferred adjudications in the past seven years and may include credit reports, motor vehicle records, employment records and educational attainment. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic bar to employment. Each case is considered individually.
Physical Demands And Work Environment & Other Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent is regularly required to bend, carry, grasp/squeeze, hear, tolerate hot and cold inside and outside temperatures, be exposed to insects, keyboard, kneel, lift below the waist, lift between waist and shoulder, lift to the side/twist, use material handling equipment, tolerate noise, pull, push, reach, see near, sit, squat, stand, stoop, talk, twist, use his/her hands, drive a vehicle, walk, walk on an incline, use wide hand spread, work with others, and work overtime. This position may require overtime, rotating shifts nights, evenings, weekends and holiday work. Candidates must have the ability to pass a criminal background investigation prior to employment.
