Job summary

University of Puget Sound is seeking a detail‑oriented Mailroom Clerk to sort campus mail, process parcels, and assist customers at the mail desk. The role includes stamp sales, cashier duties, and deposits, with supervision of student workers as needed.

  • Make daily cash and credit card deposits.
  • Answer questions about mail status by phone or in person.
  • Research misaddressed mail and reroute correctly.
  • Forward mail for graduates or study abroad students.
  • Process facsimile messages.
  • Lift and move up to 50 pounds; sit and stand regularly.

Appointment: Regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) position.

Work Location: This position is based in Tacoma, WA, and is an on-campus role only.

Position Summary

This position sorts incoming and outgoing mail. Provides customer service support including over-the-counter stamp sales, mailing parcels, and accepting delivery and transmitting facsimile message processing. Processes delivery of mail and packages to students, staff and faculty

Essential Job Functions And Responsibilities
  • Collect, sort, and distribute campus mail.
  • Process incoming and outgoing parcels.
  • Process outgoing departmental mail on Connect + 2000 meter machine
  • Conduct over the counter stamp and shipping sales.
  • Execute cashier transactions, including giving change and counting the till.
  • Make daily cash and credit card deposits.
  • Answer phone and in person questions regarding the status of student, faculty and staff mail.
  • Research incorrectly addressed mail for correct addressing and rerouting mail to the correct address.
  • Forward mail for students who have graduated or who are on study abroad or leave of absence.
  • Process facsimile messages.
  • Lift, carry, push and pull one-to-50 pound items on a regular basis.
  • Sit and Stand on a regular basis.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise student workers during their shifts.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to understand complex Postal Service, Federal Express and United Parcel Service procedures, rates, and regulations
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to use personal computers, telephones, fax equipment, calculators and mail metering equipment
Qualifications

Candidates must be able to explain and/or demonstrate that they possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to safely perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • High School diploma or G.E.D
  • Customer service and cash handling experience highly desired
  • 1 year of relevant experience
  • Ability to respectfully work, communicate and provide leadership within a diverse campus community

The anticipated rate for this position is $18.80 per hour. Decisions about starting salaries are made based on the extent and relatedness of the candidate's education and experience and on internal equity and market considerations.
